U.S. Navy tests a new Railgun

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on December 12th, 2010

Railguns have some serious power and while we are used to seeing them in the movies, the government is always busy testing out new ways to use them. The U.S. Navy just fired a metal projectile that destroyed a target a hundred miles away.

The railgun’s operation is pretty straightforward. It uses an electrical charge measured in megajoules as a propellant, which allows the large ordnance to be fired and detonated quickly. The recent test struck the distant target in a matter of minutes.

Exploding Droid 2 was actually dropped?

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on December 11th, 2010

Remember that guy who claimed he was injured when his Motorola Droid 2 exploded in his ear? Well, a source within Motorola believes that the man’s claims are false. Big surprise. This source believes that the phone was dropped and that the guy likely didn’t notice that the glass had cracked, cutting himself when he put his ear to it.

Sounds reasonable to me. The images of the device didn’t give any indication that an explosion had occurred, and the phone still worked so this scenario makes sense. There was also no explosive damage apparent on the device, with nothing blown outward.

Our friends over at Engadget have some photos of the Chrome Laptop being taken apart, which reveals the inner working and shows what is inside. According to Engadget, inside the Chrome OS notebook you’ll find a SanDisk branded SSD, and some Hynix memory chips.

This poor laptop is supposed to be getting tested and instead it was subjected to the horrors of a teardown. Well, it’s a cruel world. Hopefully all the kings horses and all the kings men were able to put it back together.
