Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on December 13th, 2010

BlackBerry users, like everyone else, want to be kept up to date with the latest news, so having a decent RSS feed reader on the BlackBerry platform is a good thing. And we have just that with the BlackBerry News Feeds app.

This app will aggregate and deliver all of your RSS feeds in a clean and easy to use way, however one downside is that Google Reader support is not there. Even so, it’s easy to use when adding feeds and allows you to sift through unread items quickly like any other RSS feed reader.

Amazon has sold millions of new Kindles this quarter

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on December 13th, 2010

Amazon has been keeping their Kindle sales figures to themselves, until now. They recently announced that “in just the first 73 days of this holiday quarter, we’ve already sold millions of our all-new Kindles.” Well, we know that this at least means that they have sold 2 million of the new Kindles.

We aren’t sure what prompted them to make such an announcement, but they seem pretty happy about the sales, even if they aren’t high enough to give us concrete numbers.

P8000 Moon may be Pantech’s first Android phone for AT&T

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on December 13th, 2010

Not a single one of AT&T’s Pantech-branded handsets thus far has been powered by the Android operating system, but the Pantech Moon P8000 may change all of that. This smartphone recently visited the FCC and features support for AT&T 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

It might not ship with a QWERTY keyboard, so there’s that to consider. And we don’t have any info on when they plan to roll out the Pantech Moon P8000, but we will let you know when we have more info.

Samsung is unleashing a special Luxury edition of its Galaxy Tab that will cost $1,000.00. For that price you get an exclusive leather case to carry the tablet in and a Bluetooth headset in addition to the stock Galaxy Tab. That’s it.

That’s right. There isn’t any gold or silver or even a single Swarovski crystal anywhere. We aren’t even sure if it will be the 3G-capable version. If this is a Wi-Fi-only model, you better pass on this one.

The Aigo aiPower i616 iPhone battery case claims to double the battery life of your iPhone. It features a 1,500mAh battery, as well as a USB ribbon cable built-in, allowing you to easily charge your phone from USB ports without having to worry about losing a separate cable.

That should come in handy. If you need a longer cable you can connect a standard microUSB cable into the port on the left side of the battery. It will cost you $80, but hey, you are doubling the battery life. Is it worth it? You decide.

Posted in Set Top Boxes by Conner Flynn on December 13th, 2010

Roku XR owners are celebrating Christmas a bit early as the company has released the 2.9-b1509 firmware update which ups the video support from 720p to 1080p. Nice! So what other improvements does this update include?

Well, there’s Hulu application optimization for quicker navigation and playback along with some other cool stuff. If you haven’t received the update yet, you can always leave your box running and it should update itself at some point. Or if you prefer, you can get the update manually. Just go to Settings->Player Info->Check for Updates. That should do it.

PS3 to start streaming ITV and Channel 4 in the UK

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on December 13th, 2010

The Guardian is reporting that both ITV and Channel 4, two of the nation’s largest commercial channels, are bringing their video catchup services to the PlayStation 3. The ITV Player and 4OD have had web-based services for some time and now they have both made deals with Sony, who expects their overall traffic to improve by 10 percent.

ITV says they are open to adding their content to “other consoles,” web-connected TVs, and tablets, while Channel 4 has had no luck with Xbox 360 deals and the Wii isn’t for them since it doesn’t support advertising. Sony however is very open to more content and welcomes them.

Natural Motion has launched Jenga for the iPhone and the iPad. The game even features input from the designer of the original game, Leslie Scott. The game uses real-time 3D physics simulation to recreate the behavior of an actual wooden Jenga tower. Each block is affected by the surrounding blocks requiring the gamer to apply the same strategies that they would in the real world game.

There’s also a social dimension allowing users to compare their tower height with friends from around the world, or you can play the Pass’n’Play mode which allows up to four players to take turns playing on the same iPhone.
