R2-D2 Talking Money Box

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

The R2-D2 talking money box is a great way to save up for all of that Star Wars gear you want to buy. But R2-D2 doesn’t talk, so really you are just getting a bunch of beeps and boops that you will need Luke to translate.

It’s just $34. Lucas has gotten rich off of you buying all of this R2 gear, so saving money is the least this little droid can help you to do.

Amazon’s new iPhone app offers in-store price comparisons

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

Amazon already allows you to scan a barcode on a product to purchase it online with an iPhone app and now the company has launched a new way to compare and shop with a free iPhone app called Price Check. The app lets you scan a barcode, or take a picture of the product, or even simply say the product’s name to access product listings on Amazon’s site.

Many of us will be using this one often. Right now users can take a photo of the item and match the picture to books, DVDs, CDs and video games, though Amazon says that it will be adding more categories very soon. This should make Xmas shopping a breeze this year.

This drive is capable of churning out 195MB/s and 160MB/s read and write speeds all while maintaining the form factor of a conventional 2.5-inch hard drive.

No info on pricing and availability information just yet, but these should be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB versions.

Viacom also blocking Google TV

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

Google has been working hard to bring the web experience to your HDTV, but it hasn’t been an easy road thus far. Viacom has just been added to the growing list of networks that are blocking access to Google TV. So far the only networks that allow streaming content to be viewable on Google TV are TBS and Time Warner.

With popular networks like Comedy Central, MTV, Disney and CBS already out of the picture, your choices for streaming content from your Google TV are not looking good at all. Google TV is just in it’s infancy, so this is a sad situation.

Will Apple release the iPad 2 next April?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

That’s the word on the street. That Apple will be launching an iPad 2 next April. Of course we all knew that Apple wasn’t going to stop with just one iPad. Analyst Brian Marshall of Gleacher thinks that the iPad 2 will be coming out once the CDMA version of the iPhone hits the market.

The rumor can be traced to Digitimes, who says that Apple has commissioned several companies to roll out high density interconnect boards for the device. We know it’s coming and right now April seems like a good bet.

The device is powered by at least Android 2.1, with four buttons upfront at the bottom and includes a 4GB SDHC memory card. We don’t yet know when it will be available though. Might just be a QVC exclusive for all we know.

Soundproof Keyboard Cover

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

If you end up working late into the night, typing away and annoying those who are near you, you might want to check out the Soundproof Keyboard Cover. Sure, it looks absurd, but we hope that the $36 investment will bring some peace to the ears around you.

It supposedly reduces the noise from typing and will also prevent dust from getting in between your keys. It’s probably not very comfortable though. Your hands will likely feel cramped. But if noise is a problem, this may be a good solution.

Nokia N8 phones randomly dying worldwide

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

Nokia’s N8 smartphones were supposed to save the company, but this strategy seems to have hit a snag. The problem? Well, the initial batch of N8 handsets worldwide have begun to suffer from problems concerning power issues, including a dead phone that won’t boot up or light up even with a charger plugged in.

This was originally thought to be an isolated case, but has now expanded into a 6 page thread on the official Nokia forums. Things aren’t looking good for Nokia’s flagship phone. Hopefully there is some kind of fix coming soon.

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

The streaming-only plan for Netflix unofficially rolled out last month is now being officially launched. The company opted to go with the $7.99 price, which helps it compete against Hulu Plus. However, at the same time the prices for all unlimited plans that include DVDs have jumped by at least one dollar.

So now you’ll be paying $9.99 for a one DVD at a time plan. So, it’s a cheaper option for those of us who have moved beyond physical media. Anyone going to try this new option, or are you sticking with DVDs?
