Sony’s Google TV controller shows up

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on October 5th, 2010

Sony’s Google TV controller has been leaked ahead of schedule, showing up on an episode of NBC Nightline. The controller looks like it combines a full QWERTY keyboard with two directional pads, your usual volume/channel controls for the TV, and a variety of playback buttons. The large layout leaves room for extra button rows with numbers and shortcuts for other functions. It looks pretty good.

Google TV-enabled devices are scheduled to arrive on the market next week. Sony will introduce its Bravia GT1 TV, while Logitech is readying its Revue set-top box. We aren’t sure if Sony will introduce the controller alongside the TV or not.

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on October 5th, 2010

This week at CEATEC, Fujitsu demonstrated two portable tablets running on Windows 7. The pair are prototypes for the moment, so sadly no specs were revealed. The company also showed off a Design Concept flip phone, which sported dual touchscreens that can rotate to offer a landscape view.

The handset was preloaded with Fujitsu’s proprietary OS, which could hold it back big time if or when it’s launched since the apps market isn’t likely to be capable of competing with the Android Market or iTunes store.

Computer keyboards can contain up to five times the amount of bacteria as toilet seats, or so we’ve heard. Germs are having a filthy and nasty party all over the keyboard. If you want to be healthy you better crash that party.

Germ Genie can help. The device is placed over your keyboard and shines a UV light on the keypad to wipe out those filthy buggers. If you could see them with your naked eye, it would look like a bloody massacre of little germ bodies.

Bioshock casemod sinks HTPC in mineral oil

Posted in Computer Cases,Computers,DIY by Shane McGlaun on October 5th, 2010

Over the years, I have laid eyes on some strange casemods and have seen more than one machine that was submerged in oil. A new casemod has surfaced that has a Bioshock theme. The builder uses an aquarium to put his new HTPC under four gallons of mineral oil.

The mineral oil is normally used as a laxative for horses apparently. The mainboard and PSU are mounted to a clear plastic sheet and placed into the aquarium. The only hardware part not under the oil is the HDD. The maker rounded the design out with a bubble filter, gravel and a few other things.
