The Skullhub USB hub is great for archeologists, Doctors named Bones and serial killers. It’s made of resin and is sure to scare anyone away who approaches your desk. It sports four USB 2.0 ports and it looks like the top can be used to hold candy or paperclips.

Alas poor Yorik, I knew him well… But then I took his head and mounted it on my desk. I plug in USB gadgets. He doesn’t seem to mind.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Spotted with ‘Porn’ Home Button

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on October 10th, 2010

No, this is not a special edition Galaxy Tab for porn lovers, despite the home button at the bottom of the Galaxy Tab shown above being labeled “Porn”. And, no, this isn’t Hugh Hefner’s phone.

It seems that the Romanian word for “start” is “pornire”, which was shortened. You learn something new everyday. A porn button wouldn’t be terrible though, would it? I mean, if you’re into that sort of thing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

If you want to make your own biodiesel at home, then this concept personal biodiesel processor is a safe and efficient way to go. It allows you to make an alternate fuel source right from the comfort of your home. Screw the big oil companies.

Just pour the necessary ingredients into the top and the device does the rest. The automated pumps, heating elements and thermostats take care of the entire process. A display shows you the current status. A pull-out tank collects the waste glycerin, which can be easily disposed of, or used for making soap.

New SandForce chip promises 500MB per second SSDs

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on October 10th, 2010

SandForce will be showing off their new SF-2000 range of SSD processors at the Storage Networking World Exhibition next week. The chip features a 6Gbps SATA interface and the industry’s first sustained, sequential read and write performance of 500MB/sec. Most drives only reach half of this figure.

The controller has a 60,000 sustained random read/write IOPS rating and it supports SAS interfaces, along with single-level, multi-level, and enterprise multi-level cell SSDs. It also supports 128-bit and 256-bit AES encryption and can control current and future 30nm and 20nm flash drives with the right interfaces. We don’t know when the first SSDs running the SF-2000 controllers will be available for purchase on the market.

T-Mobile version of Samsung Galaxy Tab to cost $399?

Posted in T-Mobile by Conner Flynn on October 10th, 2010

If this slide is truly legitimate, then we at last have a price for T-Mobile’s Galaxy Tab. It will cost you $399. If it is true, it’s a bit of disappointing, as that’s twice the Galaxy S’s price despite lacking telephone functionality.

Still, we are talking the first truly impressive Android tablet, so it shouldn’t be cheap, should it? We will know if it is true soon enough at any rate.

Kingston introduces Class 4 32GB microSDHC card

Posted in Kingston by Conner Flynn on October 9th, 2010

Coming just days after SanDisk’s 32GB microSDHC card has fallen to $87, Kingston outs a nearly identical unit of its very own. This one is a class 4 instead of Class 2, which means that you can look forward to a 4MB/s minimum data transfer rate.

Obviously that speed boost comes at a high price, when it starts shipping on Monday, with the card alone priced at $153. So you can either go slow and cheap, or pricey and fast. You decide.

Nokia N8 gets torn apart

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on October 8th, 2010

The Nokia N8 is shipping to Nokia fans right now and the folks over at iFixit were happy to get their hands on one too. As usual, they decided to take it apart. Some good news is that the BL-4D battery is only two screws away from being user-replaceable.

There are also the massive Xenon flash and camera modules, which are not removable from the main board. Remember these folks are professionals. Do not disassemble your N8 unless you know what you’re doing. You may not be able to put it all back together.

Nintendo 3DS will have shorter battery life than DS

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on October 8th, 2010

It’s no surprise really. Adding all of that extra power under the hood, providing a glasses-free 3D display on top, a wireless “tag mode,” and automatic wireless updates to the 3DS all add up to less battery life. Satoru Iwata himself says “it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS” and that is the main reason that a charging cradle will be bundled into the new console’s retail package.

Iwata suggests that users deposit the 3DS into its cradle as soon as they get home. You will be charging this device a lot.
