Advent Vega specs revealed

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on October 13th, 2010

Full specs for the Advent Vega Tegra 2 tablet expected to drop at UK retailers PC World and Currys for just £249 have finally emerged. The biggest modification is the size, down to 10-inches from 15, but the 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra chipset is still under the hood, so it does 1080p. However, the 1024 x 600 resolution on the capacitive touchscreen is a bit of a letdown, but the HDMI output makes up for it.

There’s a 1.3 megapixel webcam, 802.11bg WiFi, a 3G SIM slot, 512MB each of ROM and RAM, and microSD expandability, with a 4GB card included. The OS is Android 2.2 and battery life is 6.5 hours of 1080p video.

Han Solo in carbonite is one of the classic moments from the original Star Wars trilogy. Now you can have your very own custom carbonite, with you instead of Han Solo encased in carbonite.

You can find out more details of these fun custom carbonites over at Paul Pape Design. If you are a bounty hunter, go ahead and get one of these and trick Jabba the Hutt into hanging it on his wall. Pretty neat.

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Is that a Wii? The packaging would lead you to believe that it is, but actually it’s a W!!. A hard drive enclosure that looks like a miniature black Wii. Get it? W!!? Very clever. It will house a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and offers a USB 2.0 connection that you can connect to your PC or Mac.

As an added bonus, the package includes some tiny Wiimote-like key chains that are also whistles. Umm. Okay. It’ll cost you $9.70, which isn’t bad for a fake Wii that will hold your hard drive.

Is this the new Verizon iPhone 4?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Gizmodo received the image above from a source who claims that it is the iPhone 4 for Verizon. Whether it is real or not, it looks damn good.

There have been credible reports of Apple engineering being aware of back glass problems that make the iPhone 4 design too fragile. So an aluminum back makes a lot of sense. There’s just no way to know if it is real or not just yet.

Apple iPad to arrive at Walmart on Oct 15

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Looks like that leak was correct. Walmart has confirmed that Apple’s iPad will be arriving at its stores on Friday, October 15. All models will be available at the same prices that Apple charges and these will be part of a separate showcase of Apple hardware in-store.

The iPad will also be available online via Walmart, but only for in-store pick up, so you’ll be hitting the store no matter which you choose. The device will initially arrive at hundreds of stores, but an expansion will see some 2,300 stores offer it by mid-November. We take this move by Apple to mean that it is feeling some pressure from the competition.

Samsung X430 headed for Microsoft Stores, free of crapware

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

You know how it is. You purchase a notebook that’s been filled up with bloatware that you don’t want. We’ve all been there. But the Korea-bound Samsung X430 notebook is free of such things. The notebook is apparently a Microsoft Store Exclusive, and offers a Microsoft Signature Image label that means that it’s copy of Windows 7 is completely free of trialware and other crap.

However, Microsoft has filled it with a bunch of in-house software like Windows Live, Bing Maps 3D, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I guess you are trading one set of bloatware for another.
