Chevy to build 50% more Volts in 2012

The Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle is finally set to come to market. The car will carry a $41,000 sticker price. A lease on the Volt will go for $350 per month and the first year will see limited production.

Production will increase the next model year and Chevrolet has announced that by 2012 it will have increased production by 50% to 45,000 units. More units built and sold will help reduce the cost and hopefully that steep price will come down significantly.

The Volt can drive for 40 miles on electric power alone and has a generator to produce more power when the batteries are dead. The generator uses gasoline.
