Luxurite 82-inch Glass TV

Posted in HDTV by Conner Flynn on July 31st, 2010

If you like your TV to have a more glass, Luxurite has released their Giant series 82-inch Glass TV, basically a two-way mirror with an LCD screen behind it. This means that when the LCD is activated, you see the display. When it’s turned off, you only see your reflection.

That huge screen delivers 1080p resolution, a 120,000:1 contrast ratio and you also get three HDMI inputs. This weather-proof Glass TV is also available in 15-inch, 17-inch, 19-inch, 22-inch and 42-inch sizes.

PS3 firmware 3.41 causing hard drive upgrade problems?

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on July 31st, 2010

Seems like folks are always having problems after they upgrade their PS3 firmware, but we can’t say we’ve experienced any problems. Firmware 3.41 seemed like a minor update that added a new “You May Like” section to the PlayStation Store, but some people are saying that it’s been causing problems for anyone trying to upgrade the hard drive in their console.

There’s a 30-page plus thread on the official PlayStation forums where folks are venting about issues upgrading their hard drive. They’ve been getting a “no applicable data” error after trying to install the update, which has left them with a non-working PS3 and, in some cases, a corrupted original drive.

Xtraordinay Adventures offers budget space flights for rich folk

Posted in Space by Shane McGlaun on July 30th, 2010

I would not think that someone who had $100k to drop on a suborbital space flight would quibble much about an extra few grand or even an extra hundred grand. The folks with the disposable income to take a joy ride into space probably don’t think twice about that kind of money.

A company called Xtraordinary Adventures has announced that it is pre-booking suborbital space flights on its reusable Lynx spacecraft for $95,000. The company points out that its price is $7000 less than Space Adventures and $100,000 less than Virgin Galactic’s price.

Umbrella dryer uses that rainwater to grow plants

Posted in Concepts by Shane McGlaun on July 30th, 2010

We don’t have to use umbrellas too often in my area, but when we do the floors in the house and at stores around town are very slippery thanks to all the water. If you live in an area where it rains a lot you will find this concept umbrella stand appealing.

The stand has these long green foam fingers that you slip your umbrella between. Those green foam fingers take the rainwater off your umbrella and use it in a very green way.

Back early in June I mentioned that rumors were going around that Redbox would be offering Blu-ray movie rentals for $1.50 per night. Redbox has now come out and made the Blu-ray rentals official.

Redbox has added Blu-ray titles to 13,300 of its kiosks across the country. The company says that all 23,000 of the kiosks will have Blu-ray rentals by the fall. The flicks will rent for $1.50 per night.

Posted in Android by Shane McGlaun on July 30th, 2010

Way back in October of last year we talked about the Viper SmartStart app that would let the user unlock and start their car from their iPhone. That app was also available for Blackberry users as well.

Viper has announced this week that the app is now available for Android users. The app has the same features as the app offered on other platforms.

Space Invaders Couch looks uncomfortable

Posted in Furniture by Conner Flynn on July 30th, 2010

This Space Invaders couch is awesome, even if it does look uncomfortable. It’s the perfect seat for playing the classic game and once you win, you can consider it your throne as you will have vanquished your alien foes.

Sadly, this sofa will likely never get made. Only myself and two other people would buy it. It was created by designer Igor Chak. It probably folds up and eats you if you lose the game.

Monster Tron Legacy T3 & T1 Headphones

Posted in Headphones by Conner Flynn on July 30th, 2010

People are getting pretty excited about the new Tron movie. That’s a good enough reason for Monster Cable to team up with Disney to bring us several Tron Legacy products like these T1 headphones, T3 in-ear headphones, the Monster Tron Powerstation and the ID Disc Dock.

These T1 headphones will come with Monster’s ControlTalk, and they look pretty awesome. As if they came straight out of the movie. If you are a Tron fan, then you’d better start saving some dough. You have a lot to buy.

As Droid Life notes, there’s more confirmation that the phone will be running the same skin as the Droid X, with the Swype-enabled (and multitouch-enabled?) soft keyboard. Looks like Android 2.2 will come preloaded too.

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on July 29th, 2010

Puzzles can be fun. They can be frustrating. They can flex your brain muscles. And now they can be deadly. This might look like a simple 3D metal puzzle, but it holds a deadly secret: if you put some of its pieces together in the proper way, it will turn into a real working gun.

That’s right. If you take about 20 of the pieces in this 125-piece puzzle and put them together in the right way, you will have a fully-functional .45 caliber handgun with a single shot. We can only assume that this would be great for assassins.
