USB 3.0 memory card reader unveiled by Pretec

Posted in USB 3.0 by Shane McGlaun on June 1st, 2010

One of the things that I don’t like about my high capacity memory cards is moving a lot of pictures from them to my PC in bulk. I tend to just snap pics until the card is full. It can take a long time to transfer lots of GB of pics to the PC via USB.

Pretec has announced the world’s first USB 3.0 memory card reader called the P240. This super fast memory card reader has up to 5Gb/s of bandwidth. That makes it perfect for transferring lots of images and video to and from memory cards.

The P240 supports SDHC, SDXC, CF, and other major memory card formats. The reader is set to start sampling next month and will enter mass production in August. Pricing and general availability are unknown.

Hi, Regarding SDXC; In a few years there will be billions of SDXC cards all over the world; all using the exFAT file system. No option. This is the standard. Most embedded devices use Linux (Google’s Android, Intel’s and Nokia’s MeeGo, Samsung’s Bada, etc.). Linux adoption is growing, taking market share from most of the proprietary operating systems. Basically, Tuxera has assumed a leadership role, through work with Microsoft and the SD Association, in handling billions of consumer electronics devices that will be using SDXC cards in the coming years. Tuxera exFAT for Android and other Linux systems was a major first. – Best Lauren
