Nikon Lens Coffee Thermos

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on June 4th, 2010

It took the competition long enough, but at last you can have a Nikon lens coffee thermos to match that Canon thermos we showed you awhile back. These thermos’ are the only safe way to get hot Coffee from a camera lens.

This Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 thermos is available for preorder now. The camera lens thermos wars are certainly heating up. Just don’t get confused and try to put it on your camera. That could literally be a hot mess.

Redbox getting $1.50 per night Blu-ray rentals?

Posted in movies by Shane McGlaun on June 4th, 2010

I think it serves Blockbuster right that all of their stores are starting to go out of business. At one time, there were no less than six locations in my town of 100,000 people. Over the last year, they have all gone out of business. I thank Redbox for killing off Blockbuster and their late fees.

One thing I am not a big fan of on Redbox, other than the fact that I can never remember to return the flicks I rent, is that it offers no Blu-ray titles. Redbox president Mitch Lowe has now stated that Blu-ray rentals are coming in the next few months for $1.50 per night.

Jetstar Airways rents out iPads for $8.40 a flight

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on June 4th, 2010

Wish you had an iPad to entertain you during your flight? Fly Jetstar. Bluebox only announced the idea two weeks ago and already it’s slated to hit Australia at the end of the month. Quantas budget carrier Jetstar Airways will hold a trial of the service in the last two weeks of June, where they will hand out iPads to passengers on flights 90 minutes or longer for the equivalent of $10.

If a success, they will extend the service to their entire network. In the meantime, enjoy your inflight movie.

iMaria is a sad app for your pathetic and lonely life

Posted in iTunes by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

It’s not easy being an internet geek. We get that. And we feel for you. But please, get out once in a while. Meet someone. That’s a much better alternative to buying this iMaria app. It’s a sort of Playmate virtual girlfriend for the nerd that lacks everything.

iMaria is happy to stay at home and cook, or go out. It’s all good. She’s a virtual English girlfriend with a cute accent and a great personality, as well as a great pair of… And obviously it’s all very tame and lame thanks to iTunes no-porn policy. Which makes you even sadder if you buy this. Have fun watching her peel virtual potatoes in the virtual kitchen. Probably the highlight of your day.

ViewQuest: The world’s smallest pocket WiFi radio

Posted in Radio by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

Dedicated WiFi radios haven’t really taken off in the U.S. Probably because it’s hard to find a decent, small, and pocketable WiFi radio. However, here’s one to consider. The new ViewQuest Pocket WiFi Radio claims to be the smallest portable WiFi internet radio in the world.

The device will cost you $131. But sadly for this gadget, for just $199 you could get an iPod Touch and install some internet radio apps, getting more bang for your buck. But the choice is yours of course.

Mayor Bloomberg replaces index cards with an iPad

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

No matter what you think of Apple, you have to agree that the iPad, just like the iPhone is changing the world. Yesterday, Mayor Bloomberg used his iPad for a speech instead of using index cards. Earlier that day he even showed it off in Staten Island declaring that it may replace his daily briefing book, itineraries, and other notes.

Pretty high praise indeed. It might not have been the best venue to show off his new toy though, as he was there speaking about the city’s struggling economy and facing questions from taxpayers. He loves the device. The mayor says that he even uses it to relax with a virtual Koi pond.

Laser guided scissors

Posted in Tools by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

Unless you’re Martha Stewart, it can be hard to cut in a straight line. Forget the ruler and pencil, just buy a pair of these awesome laser guided scissors. They will give you straight lines every time.

This must be what it looks like when the Borg do arts and crafts. Of course their lasers would cut the paper by itself. They’ll only cost you $20. I am Locutus of Borg. I will assimilate wrapping paper and cut straight.

Inventec Dr. Eye Android-powered MID

Posted in MID by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

It’s not often you come across a gadget that has a name like a Bond villain, but Inventec has done just that, naming its new device Dr. Eye. This new MID opens up like a miniature netbook or notebook, though we aren’t sure why anyone would want a MID like this, what with the popularity of tablet devices.

The device will cost you $400. That’s tablet price territory. Still, if you like it, some specs include: a 4.8-inch touchscreen display, QWERTY keyboard, a 600Mhz Marvell 624 processor, 3G, Wi-Fi, Front-facing webcam, Android 1.6 with the possbility to upgrade to 2.1.

Dell Streak docking station with HDMI output

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

What’s this? Some pictures of the docking station and an interesting case for the upcoming Dell Streak have now surfaced. A docking station for a 5-inch device was a given, but it’s awesome that the docking station offers an HDMI connector, allowing you to hook the device up to a larger display.

Other connectors in the dock include a line-out port and USB. There’s also the protective case for the Streak, with a built-in kickstand so you can enjoy your videos.

PlayStation 3 is HDTV ready with a Father’s Day bundle

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on June 3rd, 2010

The PS3 was technically never capable of playing games or movies in high definition right out of the box, but with this special Father’s Day PS3 bundle, it is. There’s an HDMI cable packed in. Of the many PlayStation 3 bundles so far, none have come with anything other than standard composite cables, requiring add-on component cables for 720p/1080i or an aftermarket HDMI cable for 1080p.

Your dad can rest easy knowing that he can enjoy LittleBigPlanet or a Blu-ray movie on his HDTV without having to run out and get the proper cables.

Hello Kitty fans certainly have their pick of gadgets with the Kitty’s image on them, but these Hello Kitty cases seem to stand out. Fans of the kitty will want to grab these up.

I’m not sure how many lives the kitty has used up thus far, but isn’t time for a new cute kitty? I think so.

Apple says no third party apps can capture device data

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on June 3rd, 2010

Apple and its CEO Steve Jobs are notorious for their tight levels of secrecy surround its new products. I was surprised when Jobs didn’t personally castrate the dude who lost that iPhone prototype in public. Steve is now pissed that third parties are grabbing data on what software and devices are being used.

The problem Steve has with this is that “some company called Flurry” was capturing device information on handsets and software that were in testing on the Apple campus. Good ol’ Steve, never one to mince words said “Some company called Flurry had data on devices that we were using on our campus — new devices. They were getting this info by getting developers to put software in their apps that sent info back to this company! So we went through the roof. It’s violating our privacy policies, and it’s p***ing us off! So we said we’re only going to allow analytics that don’t give our device info — only for the purpose of advertising.”
