Japanese docs use iPad during surgery

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on June 4th, 2010

I like my iPad and I have taken it with me many places for reading and playing games when I get bored. Lots of folks are finding that the iPad is good for a great many things, including a group of surgeons in Japan.

These docs used the iPad during surgery apparently to view images to help during the procedure. The iPad was held by an assistant during the surgury. I imagine it went something like this — scalpel, suction, iPad, landscape please.

The iPad is covered in plastic film to prevent any contamination during the procedure. That should also help keep blood from betting on the thing as the docs cut and use the cauterizer, which I can tell you from experience makes the worst smell in history and I have changed many dirty diapers in my day.
