NEC debuts new pro level MultiSync PA271W LCD

Posted in NEC by Shane McGlaun on May 6th, 2010

Professional users have much different needs than the consumer when it comes to the LCD they use for their computer. The professional designer needs to know that the color seen on the screen is the color that will be printed in the finished image or document.

For the pro level user NEC has a new LCD called the MultiSync PA271W that has a 10-bit p-IPS panel sporting a 2560 x 1440 resolution on the 27-inch screen. Other than the big screen, the LCD has a wide color gamut.

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

Add another to the ever growing mass of e-Book readers available. Looks like the Wi-Fi Alliance has certified the Samsung E65 e-book reader, a successor to Samsung’s first E60 e-book reader. It’s no iPad, but you might want to give it a look.

The new model features a 6-inch e-ink display that supports an electromagnetic resonance (EMR) stylus pen, a full QWERTY keypad, text-to-speech, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, and MP3 playback capability.

Nintendo Wii sales down 21 percent in a single year

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

When the Nintendo Wii was released, people called it gimmicky with it’s motion controller, but in spite of that, the console has done really well. But the fact that it’s aging and doesn’t have many grown-up games may be shortening it’s life as a console.

According to Nintendo’s fiscal report, the company sold 20.53 million Wii consoles last year, which is a 21 percent drop from the 25.95 million from the previous year. However this is still Nintendo’s third-best year ever. Will sales of the Wii pick up? I’m not seeing it.

ClamCase turns your iPad into a laptop, won’t bring back Flash

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

The ClamCase concept is an “all-in-one keyboard, case and stand for the iPad,”. Yep, it turns your iPad into an almost decent-looking pretend laptop. Better looking than the Lap-Dock anyway.

The keyboard connects to your iPad via Bluetooth and you’ll be able to blend in with all of the other laptop users. But two things will give you away: you tapping the screen and your lack of Flash. Supposedly the ClamCase will be on sale in the fall of this year.

TomTom Darth Vader voice pack

Posted in TomTom by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

TomTom has announced a new Darth Vader voice pack. That’s right, the Sith Lord will now help guide you down the right path. The path of the dark side.

The pack is now complete and ready for download, costing just $13. Yoda, C3PO and Han Solo packs should be coming in a few months. Why you would want C-3PO I have no idea. That droid is annoying.

Casini Studio’s Sport Small Pendant Jewel MP3 player

Posted in MP3 by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2010

Casini Studio has unveiled the Sport Small Pendant Jewel MP3 player. Wow, what a name. The design makes it ideal for sports or walking since it hangs around your neck and therefore won’t fall off.

The player features a removable case that joins the earphone cables and disk with the interface to form a single body with external surfaces. Looks like a high-tech medical device. Sadly, there’s no info on pricing or availability yet.

Illuminated door handles warn you that the restroom is occupied

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2010

You know how it is. When you have to go, you have to go. But you don’t always know if someone is in there already. And from the other perspective, when you are doing your business, it’s annoying to hear someone knocking to rush you long.

Well, these neat illuminated door handles begin to glow when the door is locked from inside. It just takes a single AA battery to operate and anyway it makes your home look that much cooler.

Google search gets a new look

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2010

Google has decided to introduce a new look to their search results, making it even easier to search for and find exactly what you’re looking for. There’s some simple left-hand navigation the new Google look, but we’ll let the video tell you all about it.

I’ll just say that I happened upon the changes by accident last night and was quite pleased with what I found. In general, contextually relevant, left-hand navigation has been added to the page, while the overall look and feel has also undergone some slight changes.

Skype to unveil group video calling

Posted in Skype by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2010

Ahh, look at that. Skype has made another grandma happy as yet another child tries to move slowly away and escape. Well, Skype is about to get even better. Next week, they will be rolling out a public beta of Group Video Calling that will connect you with up to four friends, for free. Get ready for some long distance partying. And some extra boring business while looking at some extra co-workers

The feature will be available only to Windows PC users initially, but a Mac version will arrive later this year. By that time it may no longer be free, but we will see. Skype does say that it plans to charge for the feature within the next three or four months.

The LG Ally was recently acknowledged to actually exist, but aside from that, we knew very little. Well, now the phone has it’s own page on the company’s website, which is also a nice little commercial for Iron Man 2.

Aside from pimping out Tony Stark and his technicolor armored geek suit, it gives us some info. The device has a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, backside camera and a microSD card slot.

Verizon Droid Incredible torn apart in stop motion video

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2010

Now you can check out a video showing Verizon’s recently announced Droid Incredible being unboxed and then disassembled in a cool stop-motion video. Don’t worry about the life of this phone, unlike Humpty Dumpty it’s put back together in the end.

You can thank the guys at TechRestore for the video below, which runs around 3 minutes in length. They didn’t find anything special inside other than the usual camera, chips, CPU’s and a screen, but it is very entertaining.
