Android-powered LG C710 Aloha smartphone

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

Keep in mind that this is unconfirmed, but rumor is that LG is planning an Android-powered phone called the C710 Aloha. The rumored specs certainly have us drooling and we are ready to believe this one since there was recently approval of a device called the C710 by the WiFi Alliance.

Some of those rumored specs include an 800 x 480 display, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Full QWERTY keyboard along with GPRS, UMTS, HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity. Sounds like a good Droid alternative.

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

By now you probably find your Blackberry boring. Your relationship with your BB needs something to spice it up. Maybe couples therapy, maybe some time apart, or just maybe a color change. Without going the Colorware route of course.

The Thai version of RIM’s site has posted a picture of a white Bold 9700. It might be just the thing you and your Blackberry need to get closer once again and mend your relationship. It will definitely stand out.

BunBun Eco Light: Twirl to charge

Posted in Flashlights by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

Eco gadgets that don’t require batteries usually have a solar panel in them. Or maybe they require you to crank a handle to juice it up. Well, the BunBun Eco Light has neither. Instead, you just have to twirl it around for about 30 seconds.

All of that kinetic energy will juice the battery and give you 5 minutes of light using a trio of LEDs. You would probably be twirling something anyway, like your keys. The BunBun Eco Light should arrive this month for around $22 in pink, green, purple and black colors.

Apple 3D video glasses

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

Looks like Apple is getting into the 3d game too. And why not. Everyone is doing it, good idea or not. Apple has a patent application for a “Head-Mounted Display Apparatus For Retaining a Portable Electronic Device With Display”.

It was filed back in August of 2008 and the idea was that it would be a wearable display capable of streaming A/V content from a pocketable device. Like maybe, I don’t know, an iPod maybe? It would all be wireless and feature “stereoscopic imaging”.

The iPad app Store is now live

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

In other iPad news, the app store is now live. If they don’t have it already, then soon you will be able to choose from all of the fart, beer, and boobs related apps you can handle for your new iPad as well as some truly useful ones.

This comes days before the device has been released to regular joes without media credentials. There are many to choose from and of course they are more expensive. You can find a full list here. Let us know what you think. Are there any that you absolutely plan on getting?

No Replaceable Batteries in Windows Phone 7 Handsets

Posted in Microsoft by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

This was an April Fools joke. Looks like many of you fell for it too. Silly fools. Okay, they got me too. Don’t you hate April 1st?
Expecting some replacable batteries in Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 handsets? Don’t. Microsoft is disallowing user-replaceable batteries. And why not? Apple already does this and sales are just fine. So they are following suit.

It’s annoying, but the end result is apparently that it helps in creating a better looking handset. So if you were hoping for a phone that is the opposite of Apple’s, forget it. How do you feel about the whole swappable/non-swappable battery issue?

Motorola H17txt Bluetooth headset with MotoSpeak

Posted in Motorola by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

Motorola’s new H17txt model can be paired with the company’s new MotoSpeak text-to-speech application to read text messages out loud as they come in. The software is available for Android and BlackBerry at first, and will supposedly translate 150 different commonly used acronyms.

That means that when it reads l8r it will say later. The headset is pretty standard, with CrystalTalk noise-canceling technology, five hours of talk time and seven hours of standby, and Bluetooth 2.1 compatibility.

HP and Dell rumored to be leaving 10-inch netbook market

Posted in Computers by Shane McGlaun on April 1st, 2010

Both Dell and HP were late getting into the netbook market. The two companies ultimately offered netbooks, but by that time, they were not the most popular machines in the segment. Major computer makers were also lamenting the fact that price of the netbooks drove profits down.

DigiTimes cites sources that claim both Dell and HP are set to reduce their investment s in the 10-inch netbook market. These sources claim that HP may even vacate the market altogether.

Sanus Systems offers cheap and easy HDTV wall mount needing no stud

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on April 1st, 2010

I once wanted to wall mount a HDTV in my bedroom until I found out that there were no studs where the wife wanted it and she couldn’t move the set over a foot without “ruining the room.” If you have found yourself in a similar spot, Sanus Systems has a new wall mount that is perfect for you.

The mount is a freestanding unit that puts your TV up in the air on the wall, but doesn’t need a stud to mount. The legs of the stand support the weight of the TV. There are two models including the FS56 for screens up to 56″ and the FS46 for up to 46″ sets.

iPad will also be sold at your local Apple Specialist retailer

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on April 1st, 2010

You would need to be under a rock to not know that the iPad is coming this weekend. If you have your heart set on one opening day, but didn’t pre-order you have a few options.

You can check out your local Best But location and hope to find one as we already know. However, I just got an email that claims all those smaller computer stores that are Apple Certified resellers will also have the iPad on hand this weekend.

Leopard solar-powered universal remote

Posted in Remotes by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

If you want to go green with your remote, Powerplus has just introduced the Leopard, a solar-powered universal remote that can charge its internal lithium-ion battery using either direct sunlight or artificial light. That means if you keep it facing up in a lit room, you will never have to worry about running out of batteries again. We like that a whole lot.

The dimensions on this remote are pretty standard at 7.3in x 1.9in x 0.7in. Sure it could be better looking, more stylish, but at £9.99 each I’m not going to complain.

Acer dual-booting Android and Windows Netbook on the way

Posted in Acer by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

Don’t get too excited. It’s not official yet, but it is coming and it will be a follow-up to the Aspire One D250, and will dualboot both Android and Windows. How do we know? Acer’s mobile product manager Martino Mombrini let it slip yesterday to Electricpig.

He said that the chassis of the D260 dualbook will be redesigned so it won’t look like the D250. He also took the opportunity to talk about how they want to launch a Chrome OS netbook, with a Q3 release date “likely.” What do you think? Interested?

CBS bringing free HTML5-encoded TV shows to the iPad

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

The Wall Street Journal says that ABC and CBS are working on adapting episodes of their TV shows for the iPad. Both will offer streamable programming to new iPad owners immediately upon launch. Their delivery strategies are different though.

ABC will use an app and CBS will stream through the browser (HTML5!). Eventually it will be a commercial-supported deal familiar to all of us who’ve used online streaming services. Now if NBC and Hulu get onboard you’ll have quite a lot of content available.
