Fusion Garage’s JooJoo gets torn apart

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on April 4th, 2010

People have now started to receive their JooJoo tablets, so this day had to come eventually, where someone tears it apart to expose it’s secrets. It’s a dirty job, but somebody had to do it. So, what did they find during the surgery?

Well Engadget says that the JooJoo is easy to open up, only requiring you to remove 10 screws. Under the hood there are slots for RAM, 3G radio, SSD, and even an extra PCIe slot. Performance-wise, they ran into some problems using Hotmail, and Netflix didn’t work at all on the thing. Maybe that will be cured soon.

Apple iPad Launch Today in the US

Posted in iPad by Darrin Olson on April 3rd, 2010

Apple iPad launchApple launched it’s new iPad tablet on Saturday, meeting long lines of individuals anxiously waiting, some for many hours, to purchase the new mobile device. The release of the iPad is the most anticipated product Apple has released since the iPhone launch in 2007, with almost as much hype surrounding it.

The iPads going on sale Saturday are the WiFi-only versions and are priced from $499 to $699 depending on the storage capacity desired, which ranges from 16GB to 64GB. Apple will release a 3G version of the iPad later in the month with prices ranging from $629 to $829, again depending on storage capacity.

The iPad devices are a small tablet-like device with a 9.7-inch touch screen (on screen keyboard) and they run an operating system very similar to the iPhone or iPod touch. They have the ability to download and play music and videos from Apple’s iTunes library, read books e-books with Apple’s new iBook application and use thousands of applications from the Apple App Store for the iPad.

Kindle iPad app available on iTunes

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 3rd, 2010

Many of us were wondering if the Kindle app would show up on the iPad and here it is. You can still purchase ebooks despite the fact that it competes with Apple’s iBooks app and store. Pretty nice of them I guess.

It is all official now. The app lets users select from over 450,000 books from the Kindle Store on iPad and features Amazon Whispersync technology that saves and synchronizes things like your last page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights across your Kindle, Kindle DX, iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, iPad, and others.

Netflix for iPhone coming soon

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on April 3rd, 2010

Netflix coming to the iPhone and iPod touchWe’ve been waiting for a Netflix iPhone app for a long time, but now Steve Swasey, Netflix’s VP of Corporate Communications was specifically asked if there’s an iPhone app in the future. You know, since we are getting one for the iPad. He says they are working on it.

And that’s no doubt good to hear if you’ve been waiting. But in the meantime, go watch Netflix on one of your other devices while taking comfort in Steve’s words, “We wouldn’t invite you to dinner without planning to serve dessert.” See that? They are planning dessert. It’s worth the wait.

Instant Trend watch is too dang complicated to read

Posted in Watches by Shane McGlaun on April 2nd, 2010

At some point we need to draw the line on crazy watches that have displays you need a mathematics degree and an instruction manual to read. I want my clock to have numbers and just tell me what time it is, not impress my friends by how complicated it is.

Tokyoflash has unveiled its latest, and very complicated new watch called the Instant Trend. The thing has the expected majorly complex face to show what time it is. It also has a normal readout that can show the time in up to four zones at once.

Small form factor computers are very cool. They take up less space than the average computer and look cool to boot. The downside is that the small dimensions often mean you can’t get high-end components into the device.

Shuttle has a new SFF computer that debuted in Europe a while back that has now made its way to the US. The machine is the J1 4100G and for a limited time you can get a free CPU upgrade, free video game, and a free gaming mouse.

NVIDIA says GTX 480 was designed to be hot

Posted in NVIDIA by Shane McGlaun on April 2nd, 2010

They say if life gives you lemons, then make lemonade. I say if NVIDIA gives you a video card that produces the heat of a small campfire, make smores. NVIDIA has posted to its official blog that the GTX 480 is designed to operate at high temperatures.

Apparently, lots of geeks out there using the video card were concerned that the GPU might have a short life span because of all the heat it produces. Big green says this isn’t the case and that the GPU will be fine.

If you want an iPad this weekend, the product search engine Milo is ready to help you out. Milo has issued a statement telling us all that you can hop over to its site, enter iPad as the search term, and then your zip code.

N933 Flip Phone: Is that an iPhone Flip in your pocket?

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on April 2nd, 2010

Merge an iPhone with your standard flip-phone and you get this thing, which looks like a cross between an iPhone and the Star Trek communicator. It’s the N933 smartphone. There’s no branding As far as we can tell, but it also has Apple’s iPhone interface.

When the flip is down, it looks just like any budget phone. Nothing great here when it comes to features. If you want one, it will cost you $129.99.

Toshiba UX600 series HDTVs certified Windows 7 compatible

Posted in Toshiba by Conner Flynn on April 2nd, 2010

Here’s something different. Have you been looking for a Windows 7 certified 55-inch TV? Toshiba thinks so. Their 120Hz UX600 series is the first HDTV on the market to get official Microsoft certification, largely due to DLNA support over Ethernet or WiFi.

The logo lets you know it’s a Windows TV so that the average consumer know what he/she is buying if they are looking to stream media to the living room. Hopefully no Blue screens of death here.

USB-IF certifies 50 SuperSpeed USB products

Posted in USB 3.0 by Conner Flynn on April 2nd, 2010

It’s sad, but all of those neat uSb toys that you bought are now obsolete. That’s because the USB-IF has announced the completion of SuperSpeed USB (3.0) compliance on 50 devices. That’s nothing compared to the amount of USB 2.0-compliant devices available, but it’s a start.

The new products range from PCIe adapters to ExpressCard adapters. The list includes things like HP’s Envy 15 laptop and WD’s My Book 3.0 external hard drive, but most are adapters right now. 45 of them are listed on the site and five are unidentified.

iCade mini arcade cabinet for iPad

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on April 1st, 2010

If nothing else has sold you on the iPad, this thing here sure makes it tempting. The iCade turns your iPad into a mini arcade cabinet. It’s one thing to play an arcade game on your iPad, it’s another to slide that iPad into the iCade and relive the good old days. In miniature size anyway.

The iCade will cost you $150. Pretty awesome. Overpriced, but then many say that about the iPad too. You decide. We like it.
