TSA says E-readers, Netbooks and iPads Can Stay in Their Cases

Posted in News by Darrin Olson on April 8th, 2010

TSA employee looks inside laptop bag.Blogger Bob with the TSA announced recently that electronic items smaller than the standard size laptop should not need to be removed from their bag or case when going through airport security. They didn’t say specifically what that standard size is, but did name a few items specifically that would fall below the size threshold have having to be removed, namely iPads, Kindles, Neos, Nooks, Sony Readers and Netbooks.

This certainly doesn’t mean that you don’t need to take things out of your bag if asked when going through security, but it is good news to hear since removing and donning all your gear again is sometimes tough enough.

Philips Xenium X312 boasts one month standby battery life

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2010

Well, now this is an impressive claim. The Philips Xenium X312 will have a month of battery life, according to this render’s front screen. Some other specs to leak out include a QVGA display, Bluetooth, FM radio, 2 megapixel camera, and a microSD memory card slot. It’s probably only 2G, which helps get that amazing battery life.

With that kind of battery life you would never miss a call, ever. Sadly, chances are we won’t be seeing this one in North America, and it will stay around Asia and Russia.

Lightsaber nightlight, what took so long?

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2010

Most kids are afraid of the dark and regular nightlights don’t do much more than create scary shadows, giving them something more to be afraid of. But every kid knows that the ultimate defense against darkness is a lightsaber.

This remote-controlled, wall-mounted lightsaber light can change into seven different colors and can be adjusted using the remote from bed. How awesome is that? You are now protected by a real Jedi weapon. Monsters don’t stand a chance.

NewPCgadgets security case for iPad

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2010

You spent a lot on that new iPad, so you better keep it secure. And to do just that NewPCgadgets has introduced a new Security Case for the iPad. Now you can lock up that iPad and prevent others from using it without your permission.

This is the first locking case for the iPad and makes it look all businessy rather than stylish in my opinion. It’s available in black leather for $44.95. But looking at that design, I’m not sure it will keep any determined person away from your iPad for long.

Michelin Smart Jumper Cables

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2010

Connecting jumper cables from one car to the other is pretty easy already, but Michelin is making it even easier. The Michelin Smart Jumper Cables are all blue. That’s because you no longer need them to be color coded even.

The circuitry inside knows exactly what is going on and can detect whether a successful complete circuit is achieved or not, and it will let you know via the LED. When a second battery is connected, it will determine the polarity automatically and switch to accomodate. No more worrying about shocks or sparks. Pretty neat.

Remember that muzzle-like mic we told you about wayyyy back in March of last year? Looks like you can finally buy one. And if you have a voice that sounds like screeching humping monkeys, you’ll need it.

This mic absorbs all of your awful singing so you won’t disturb anyone else, while letting you sing at the top of your lungs. Pre-orders for the USB Karaoke Mute-Mic at Japan Trend Shop will cost you $80. It will also work with Windows XP and Vista.

The device features a camera that can be mounted on the windshield, with one side facing the road and one side facing the vehicle’s interior. It will work in low light conditions and has an integrated GPS receiver and a microphone.

Yuento Hand Shredder lets you shred by hand

Posted in Office Gadgets by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2010

We’ve seen plenty of hand cranked gadgets, but not a one of them has been a paper shredder. Well, the Yuento Hand Shredder needs no electricity. If you want to shred your sensitive documents, just crank away. And if your company has been up to know good and doing bad things, you may get quite a workout.

Otherwise, this cross-cut shredder has a single sheet paper slot only, so it’s just for light shredding duty. There’s also a removable waste drawer to keep things neat. Only $62. It might just exercise your puny limbs.

Amazon offers pre-order on StreamTV 3D TV needing no glasses

Posted in Amazon by Shane McGlaun on April 7th, 2010

I really want to get a 3D TV in my living room, but before that happens I need to see some 3D content come to DirectTV. I am also waiting for the tech to get cheaper and hopefully lose the need for glasses to watch.

Amazon.com has a 3D TV up for pre-order from a company that I have never heard about and can’t find any information about online called StreamTV. The TV is interesting, but even Amazon is very light on details for the set.

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on April 7th, 2010

I am not a college sports fan at all, but I know a few people who live and die by the scores of their favorite college teams. If you are one of these sports fans that wants everything in the team colors RCTView.com has your new TV.

The company has some licensed collegiate HDTVs that sport team mascots and logos form several major schools in Florida. The sets are available with logos for the Florida State Seminoles, Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, and University of Central Florida Knights.

Toshiba Camileo S20, H30, and X100 camcorders finally land in US

Posted in Toshiba by Shane McGlaun on April 7th, 2010

We heard about the Toshiba line of camcorders way back in September of 2009. I’m not sure what took the things so long to land in the US, but Toshiba has announced that the cameras are finally available here.

The line includes the Camileo S20, H30, and X100 camcorders. The S20 is a tiny camcorder 0.67″ thick and weighing only 3.5 ounces. It has a 4x digital zoom, direct YouTube upload button, and a 5MP CMOS sensor. It can record in 1080p resolution.

LG LU2300 details emerge

Posted in Mobile Phones by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2010

We now have more information on the LG LU2300 smartphone which comes with a slideout QWERTY keyboard and a circular D-Pad. There’s also a hardware button setup on the front.

It differs from other Android phones from LG because it has the fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor with a 3.5″ AMOLED display, 5-megapixel camera and Android 2.1. Right now it looks like it’s only a South Korea special. No idea if or when it will hit North America.

Toe Mouse uses flip flop tech

Posted in Concepts,Mouse by Shane McGlaun on April 7th, 2010

When it comes to computer peripherals like your mouse, most of us go for the traditional design that sits on the desk and moves the cursor on screen and stuff. Gamers look for the other things in a mouse like lots of sensitivity and buttons.

A new concept mouse has turned up on Yanko Design that is completely different. As you might guess from the name Toe Mouse, the input device is designed to be operated with your feet. Am I weird for being grossed out a bit by that?
