Crazy Magic Charger looks frustrating

Posted in Concepts by Shane McGlaun on April 13th, 2010

I had several Rubik’s Cube puzzles when I was a kid and typically I would end up pulling the stickers off and sticking them in the correct pattern to win. A new concept charger reminds me of the frustrating times playing the Rubik’s Cube.

The concept is called the Magic Charger and it is a cube of white and green squares with symbols on them. As you work the puzzle, the motion is harnessed somehow and turned into electricity.

House season finale shot on a Canon 5D Mark II

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on April 13th, 2010

The HD video quality of dSLRs is amazing these days. And so the House season finale has now been shot entirely on a Canon 5D Mark II.

House director Greg Yaitanes recently announced the news on Twitter. He says the 5D was a perfect fit for the “tight spaces” of the finale. They used some Canon prime lenses along with the 24-70 and 70-200 zoom and they didn’t even use an image stabilization rig of any sort for the non-tripod shots. Pretty impressive.

Lenovo delays launch of Skylight to better compete against iPad

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on April 13th, 2010

According to Digitimes, Lenovo has delayed the launch of its Skylight smartbook from April to July in order to improve the device’s working performance and is targeting iPad as the device’s competitor. This is because Skylight uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor with a Linux-based operating system and is mainly for online activities.

But since it doesn’t function as smoothly as the iPad and doesn’t have as many functions, Lenovo has decided to postpone the launch in order to improve it.

Manga Farming turns old comic books into plants

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on April 12th, 2010

Manga Farming is an interesting art project from Koshi Kawachi that takes old manga (Japanese comic books) and turns them into potted plants. Because if you didn’t know, old, wet paper helps radish sprouts to grow.

He has several book-plants on display at the Matsuzakaya department store in Nagoya, if you want to drop by and have a look. Hopefully he didn’t use any super-valuable comics by accident.

Dell Mini 3T1 and Mini 3iX smartphones

Posted in Dell by Conner Flynn on April 12th, 2010

Some images of the Dell Mini 3T1 and Mini 3iX were recently spotted on a Chinese regulator’s website, where they have already received network access licenses for China. That suggests their debut in that part of the world in the very near future.

The Mini 3T1 will support the Chinese 3G standard, TD-SCDMA, so it will most likely be available from China Mobile. The Mini 3iX supports 3G connectivity (WCDMA) which is used by carrier China Unicom, and has rounded corners and a large display.

USB Hand-Held 4D Track Mouse

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on April 12th, 2010

Looking for something a bit different in a mouse? This new mouse from Brando might be up your alley. It looks like a lame Sci-Fi gun in a low budget movie, but who knows, it might just help your wrist.

All the action takes place in the air, not on the desk. And it’s all pew pew pew as you navigate the internet while looking incredibly silly. I mean, they could have at least made it wireless.

Windows 95 running on an iPad

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 12th, 2010

This is the sort of thing that makes universes implode. We guess it had to happen eventually. What would Bill Gates think? It’s Windows 95 running in an x86 emulator according to the creator. Not the performance you were looking for in an iPad?

Still, seeing that screen brings back memories and you now know what an alternate-universe 1995 would have been like. Apple products running windows OSs. That’s either horrible or awesome depending on your view. Video below.
