Bluetooth 4.0 will arrive by early 2011 thanks to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. It will target products that consume lower energy which would benefit more from a power-saving protocol than a high-speed protocol. It will feature a powerful low energy mode designed to enable expansion of the technology in m-health, sports and fitness, security and home entertainment where button-cell battery devices are plentiful.

BT 4.0 products should ship in late 2010 or early 2011, and things like Bluetooth watches will really benefit from this.
