HTC walks away from Palm purchase but Lenovo steps up

Palm has been on the ropes as the popularity of its Pre and Pixi WebOS smartphones has proven to be poor. The company is selling significantly less of the devices that it and analysts predicted.

Palm has stated that it is willing to entertain purchase offers and the first to step up was HTC. HTC is a rival smartphone maker and after the company eyed Palm’s books, it opted to walk away. Another suitor has stepped into the ring now.

PC maker Lenovo is said to be considering the purchase. Lenovo already sells smartphones in China and Palm would give it an instant market in the US, even if that market is poor. The purchase is said to cost at least $1.3 billion.
