Posted in Logitech by Shane McGlaun on March 2nd, 2010

Logitech has been peddling its line of Harmony universal remote controls for a while now. The line has some of the best universal remotes around. I am particularly fond of the Harmony One and use it in my living room.

Logitech has added a pair of low cost universal remotes to the Harmony line including the 600 and 650. The remotes are very similar with the same basic shape and differ in the screens used. The 600 has a monochrome screen and the 650 has a color screen.

Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205 looks to fix your netbook sound woes

Posted in Logitech by Shane McGlaun on March 2nd, 2010

I can’t really think of a notebook or netbook off hand that I have ever used that actually had a sound system that sounded good. The speakers are usually tiny things with no bass and flat sound. If you are tired of listening to movies and music with junky speakers, Logitech has a product for you.

The new Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205 has debuted today and it is designed to clip onto your notebook or netbook screen and gets connectivity and power from a USB cable that is included. The little speaker comes with its own carry case and measures 1.35″ x 2.5″.

VUDU does Facebook and Twitter integration

Posted in VUDU by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

The VUDU update this week will be of interest to those of you who like social networking sites. VUDU will now update your Facebook or Twitter status with your impressions of the movie you’re watching. Your friends with VUDU will also be able to see those updates and join in on the fun by watching the same movie.

It’s a cool way to promote and discover content, but we aren’t sure if it will catch on. The way Boxee does it might make more sense.

Rapoo 2900 wireless keyboard with touchpad, Bluetooth

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

Looking for a wireless keyboard? Why not check out the Rapoo 2900? It looks like a real charmer sitting there, looking debonair on it’s stand. It features a built-in touchpad, a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, docking charger, and a Bluetooth/USB dongle.

It’s smaller than it looks when you compare it to a full-sized keyboard and it will cost you about $86. Once you start using it you won’t be able to stop saying Rapoo over and over again.

Do you want a Netflix iPhone app?

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

Netflix coming to the Nintendo Wii Game cosoleA recent Netflix survey asked an interesting question. “How likely would you or someone in your household be to instantly watch movies & TV episodes on your iPhone via a Wi-Fi network?” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings did say that Netflix streaming would come to the iPhone “eventually”. Apparently they are gauging the interest and getting ready.

Hopefully they can offer just such an app without running into too much trouble from the studios who are always worried about their rights.

Sony offers new stylish gaming headsets

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

These headsets are unusually stylish. If they didn’t have the Sony logo I would think they were from a high-end audio company. Whether you are gaming, Skyping or whatever, the DR-350USB, DR-320DPV and DR-31DPV headsets will let you do it in style when they drop in March.

The DR-350USB (above) is available in Gold, Black and Red and has a built-in Microphone and a little remote that controls the volume. The DR-320DPV is just like it, but without a mute function. It also has a volume control and comes in gold, blue, red and black.

Star Wars foosball table made entirely with LEGOs

Posted in lego by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

You have to be a real Lego fan to make a Star Wars Foosball table entirely out of Legos and Flickr user 2×4 is just such a fan. He has created a Lego Star Wars foosball table that is functional and playable.

The table features C-3PO as the goalie against a whole bunch of storm troopers. Everything is made from Legos, even the table itself is made from LEGOs. Pretty great work. I wonder how sturdy it is.

Yoke shoulder straps for hands-free grocery shopping

Posted in Apparel by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s having my hands full carrying grocery bags after shopping. Maybe too much video-gaming has given me girlly arms, but I hate carrying bags. You can’t answer your phone either if your hands are full.

The Yoke can help in this situation. It’s a shoulder strap that can hold your groceries for you at waist level. Of course then you just have your milk and ice cream hitting you in the leg constantly, but I guess that’s the price you pay for freeing up your arms.

Panasonic batteries to last 30% longer

Posted in Batteries by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

Panasonic is always looking to improve the life of their batteries and so they have just announced a new battery that lasts 30% longer than today’s lithium ion batteries. Instead of a graphite anode, the new rechargeable lithium ion batteries will use an anode made of silicon alloy. Panasonic even claims that after 500 charge/discharge cycles, the batteries will still retain 80% of their capacity.

That’s pretty huge when it comes to battery life. Aimed specifically at laptops, Panasonic says that the new battery technology will be produced in volume starting in 2012.

Will there be an iPad shortage at launch?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

Peter Misek from Canaccord Adams says that the iPad could have some components supply issues that would limit the number of units available worldwide at launch to 300,000 units for the month of March. Apparently, there’s an unspecified production problem at the contracting company that manufactures the iPad.

They had hoped to have 1M units ready by launch. Apple had said during the iPad’s unveiling that the iPad would be available “worldwide” in “60 days” for the WiFi version and in 90 day for the 3G enabled version, so maybe this will only affect the WiFi version?

Apple prepping first Mac Mini with HDMI?

Posted in Mac by Conner Flynn on March 1st, 2010

A Mac mini with HDMI seems like common sense, even if Apple hasn’t delivered so far. But that may change soon, according to AppleInsider, who were told by “two people familiar with the matter” that prototypes of a Mac mini with an HDMI port have been showing up in the inner circles.

One of these prototypes is apparently based on NVIDIA’s MCP89 chipset, but Intel’s ongoing licensing dispute with Nvidia will prevent Apple from using the MCP89 chipset alongside its latest generation of Nehalem-based Core i3, i5 and i7 processors if it is the chipset used in the final product.
