Porn Detection Stick finds even deleted naughty files

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2010

The Porn detection stick(Not the one every man is already equipped with) is described as a “robust illicit image detection device designed to protect your family, business or organization,”. It’s a USB drive that you plug into your computer to hunt down dirty files.

It specifically goes after images and claims to be able to find them even after they’ve been deleted. The Stick works by scanning your photos for signs of naughtiness, dirtyness and filthiness by looking for exposed flesh, suggestive curvatures and “body part separation.”

Apogee’s Astro Drive A101 is a record holder. It’s the smallest USB 3.0 device on the market at the moment, though that is sure to change very soon. This smallest ever drive is also fast and can achieve read and write speeds of up to 180MB/s and 130MB/s.

It will come in 128GB, 64GB and 32GB capacities, but there’s no word on pricing yet. It has a stylish look for those who like to make a statement with their accessories.

ASUS introduces O!Play HD2 networked media player with USB 3.0

Posted in Media Players by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2010

ASUS has added a third model to their O!Play mediaplayer range, the ASUS O!Play HD2. Sadly we don’t have any information. Just the name, with no specs. However the photo reveals USB, eSATA and various forms of memory card reader.

Assuming that the O!Play HD2 is similar to the two models that have gone before it, we would guess 1080p HD video output via HDMI with networking support, either ethernet or 802.11n like the O!Play Air HDP-R3. Hopefully we will have full specs soon.

iLuv introduces bed-shaking iMM178 Vibe Plus

Posted in iLuv by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2010

Let’s face it, standard clock technology is not enough to get you out of bed. What we need is bed shaker technology. If sound alone can’t wake you up, maybe you should check out this brand new iPhone/iPod alarm clock that will wake you up with vibrations. iLuv’s iMM178 Vibe Plus.

It’s like being in a seedy hotel, with one of those shaking beds that you have to put quarters in, but you won’t need any quarters thanks to a small device attached to the Vibe Plus that iLuv calls a bed-shaker. Just put that shaker under your pillow, set the alarm to activate up to 10 days in advance or on a weekly schedule, and you are good to go.

Apple Targets Nexus One, Maybe Google in Lawsuit

Posted in Legal, patents by Darrin Olson on March 3rd, 2010

Apple files lawsuit with HTC over Android based mobile devices. On Tuesday Apple filed complaints with both the U.S. International Trade Commission and a federal court in Delaware seeking to stop the import, sales and use of some phones made by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC. The complaint suggests that HTC has infringed on patents owned by Apple with a number of their mobile handsets, all which rely on Google’s Android operating system.

The mobile devices in question include the Pro Touch, TouchPro 2, Touch Diamond, myTouch 3G, Tilt II, Pure, Imago, T-Mobile G1, Hero, Droid Eris, HD2 and of course Google’s own Nexus One which was also made by HTC. As many as 10 of the 20 accused violations involve the Nexus One, which brings up some speculation. Since Apple is targeting Android-based mobile devices with HTC, they could be gearing up to go after Google directly with the Android operating system. Not all of the patent infringement complaints by Apple involve the Android OS, however.

Bitsosan Ke toys from TOMY encourage you play with their nose hair

Posted in Toys by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

I’ve never heard of ‘Bitosan Ke’ either, don’t feel bad. Apparently he’s a little character that has just a few strands of hair on his head and a few strands sticking out from his nose. The hairs are made of static carbon fiber and when touched, they signal him to talk.

We aren’t sure what he actually says, but our guess is he isn’t too happy with having his nose hairs played with. Bitsoan Ke and five other characters will say different things. They’re powered by a LR-44 button cell and I’m not sure they qualify as cute. Just weird.

Apple sues HTC over 20 patents

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

Apple has announced that it is filing a lawsuit against HTC over the alleged infringement of about 20 patents that cover critical aspects of touch phones, like hardware, software and touch-display control. Some question whether the lawsuit is actually meant to send Google a message. But maybe it’s against the entire smartphone industry and it’s just Apple showing their teeth.

Apple should probably be more worried about Microsoft and its Windows Phone 7 Series since it has such a nice user interface and all. Basically it’s just business as usual as everybody tries to gain some breathing room in this turf war.

Sony Dash now available for pre-order, ships April 15th

Posted in Sony by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

The Sony Dash “personal internet viewer” is finally available for pre-order directly from Sony. It will cost you $199 and it’s good that you get one now while you still have money, because Sony will be shipping them out “on or about” April 15th at which time you will be short on cash.

We were not very excited about this one until we learned that it could stream shows and movies from netflix. Now we like it a whole lot more. All things considered, it should be worth the asking price.

AT&T removes Google for Yahoo Search on Motorola Backflip

Posted in AT&T by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2010

AT&T’s first Android phone won’t be shipping with Google Search. Instead, the Motorola Backflip’s home screen will feature a Yahoo Search widget, and the browser will run Yahoo searches by default. In fact it will be the first Android device with Yahoo as the main search engine.

Obviously appeasing Apple is high on AT&Ts priority list. We can’t really see what else this move does. It just says hey, we love Apple and fear them. There are four other AT&T Android phones coming soon, and we wonder if they will follow suit.
