Nokia C6 slider

Posted in Nokia by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

If the latest leaked images are to be believed, the Nokia C6 comes in slider form and looks fairly similar to the Nokia 5230. Looks genuine, but you never can tell for sure. Hopefully Nokia will confirm or deny soon so we can put it to rest either way.

It also looks similar to the N97 and N97 Mini, but the sliding QWERTY keyboard is parallel to the screen, which is much nicer. Looks like the C6 also has a trackpad that you won’t really need with the full touchscreen display.

BlackBerry 9900/9930 slider hitting Sprint?

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

Some new info has leaked regarding the BlackBerry slider and according to the latest rumors, the device failed the early diagnostic testing 4 out of 5 times, which obviously isn’t good. If the rumor holds up, the BlackBerry slider may be headed for Sprint, since the device had a Sprint logo.

There is a GSM/HSPA version of the device and the models are called the BlackBerry 9900 and BlackBerry 9930. It looks like the HSPA version will support 850/1900MHz UMTS bands which would make it compatible with AT&T and Rogers’ 3G networks.

Spiderpodium iPhone holder

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

The iPhone has cases, stands, docks and apps galore, but until now it has never had eight legs. The Spiderpodium won’t allow your iPhone to scurry away from you like a spider, but it will hold your device on eight bendable spider-like legs.

You can bend the legs to hold your iPhone on various surfaces, maybe even the handlebars of your bike, or on your steering wheel, though we don’t recommend it. The Spiderpodium is available for preorder for £14.99 ($23) and it will be available on March 29th. Should be pretty useful.

Winait CD130BT ultra thin Digital Camera

Posted in Cameras by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

If you’re in the market for a super slim digital camera, here’s one that even James Bond would be fond of. The Winait CD130BT measures just 13.5mm thin and has some fairly average specs, which is the trade-off for that slim design.

It’s only $24.99 and takes 640×480 resolution pictures, with 64MB of on board memory. The camera on your phone is probably better, but if it’s a slim camera you want, why not check it out and impress your friends?

Five-foot tall Blackberry Tour made out of LEGOs and a Flatscreen TV

Posted in lego by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

LEGO sculpture Nathan Sawaya is at it again with his newest creation, a five-foot tall LEGO model of the Blackberry Tour 9360. He could have cheaped-out on the display, but he didn’t. He integrated a large flatscreen TV into the model to simulate the screen of an actual Blackberry.

And that’s what gives this creation so much authenticity and personality. Still lacks Wi-Fi. As usual, Nathan proves that he has the right stuff as a LEGO master.

With all of the hype surrounding the iPad in the past couple of days, here’s something you might have missed. A page on Apple’s Web site dealing with Battery Replacement. According to the FAQs if your iPad dies “due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge,” Apple will replace it for you for a fee. $99 plus shipping, which comes out to $105.95 per unit.

That’s right. For a $99 service fee, they’ll send you a replacement iPad. Of course it won’t have your data, but if you sync it with your computer you already have it all. It’s a surprisingly generous solution from Apple.

The tiniest Star Trek Enterprise

Posted in Sci-Fi by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

Sure, it looks like it took on a fleet of Klingon Battle Cruisers all by itself and suffered some severe dents, but what you are looking at is the smallest Enterprise ever. It measures just 8.8 micrometers in length (1 micrometer = 1000th of a millimeter) and was created by Takayuki Hoshino and Shinji Matsui using a 30 kV Ga+ focused-ion-beam CVD.

It was created for the The 47th International Conference on Electron, Ion and Photon Beam Technology and Nanofabrication Bizarre/Beautiful Micrograph Contest back in 2003.

iPad Pre-Order numbers

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 13th, 2010

Apple iPad PreSale starting todayAccording to Forbes, Apple was selling pre-orders for the iPad at a rate of about 25,000 an hour yesterday morning. The numbers aren’t exact at this point and very unscientific. It’s based on differences between the order numbers assigned to early buyers. Not official Apple numbers.

But if it is accurate, here’s how it compares to some initial figures during the debut of the iPhone and iPhone 3G S. There were no pre-orders for the first iPhone, but roughly 200,000 phones were sold in stores on the first day that the phone was available. With the iPhone 3GS there were reportedly “hundreds of thousands” of pre-orders.

Posted in Computer Cases by Conner Flynn on March 13th, 2010

Computer cases that look like spiders aren’t something you generally see at your local Best Buy or anywhere else, where they are available to the public for that matter. However Lian Li’s new PC-T1R case is the exception to the rule. Not that it will be at Best Buy, but you can get it soon.

Now it is closer to release. Previously only seen in a teaser video, the folks at techPowerUp have now gotten their hands on one. The case should sell for “around €150″ (about $200) when released and it will be available in black and red, with some assembly required.

Final Cut saw blade does two things at once

Posted in Tools by Shane McGlaun on March 12th, 2010

I’m not cut out for building things out of wood. I once built a deck and it leaned enough that you felt drunk before the party even started. I used to know a dude that was a cabinet maker and did lots of cutting and sanding during his day. Sometimes I see products, I wonder why it took so long for someone to come out with. The Final Cut saw blade is one of those products.

This Final Cut saw blade is so cool. It features a normal saw blade that has sandpaper discs that stick to the side. The sandpaper sands the rough edges down as you cut the wood.
