Flip-top GameCube portable

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

Gamecube is probably one of my least favorite gaming consoles. But had it looked like this, I would have given it more attention. Techknott built this shiny eye-catching portable, with it’s mirrored finish. The flip top design keeps the optical drive hidden and everything looking sleek.

As you can see, it’s prone to smudges, which we don’t mind a bit, so long as those smudges come from our hands. The design is really eye-catching and looks like it could have easily been mass-produced in the past.

Netflix app streams nicely on Windows Phone 7

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

The guys over at Engadget just had a quick look at Netflix for Windows Phone 7 Series, one of the third-party apps Microsoft is showing off at MIX10. It looks like what you would expect, lots of red with the Netflix logo.

But unlike some other mobile Netflix apps, this one has Watch Instantly support and it looks pretty decent, which is a score for the capabilities of Microsoft’s Silverlight-based dev platform. We wish it was available right now. Video below.

Bodum Bistro appliances are rugged, colorful

Posted in Kitchen Gadgets by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

Bodum is actually calling their upcoming Bistro line of appliances “rugged,” wrapped in rubber and dotted with grippy outsides, they look like they can stand up to an abusive housewife. Unlike me, who gets beat regularly and cowers in the corner.

The line comes in a wide array of colors and they reportedly feel “Spongy but durable”. I’m not sure there’s a market for such rugged appliances that look more like power tools, but women are sure to dig those colors.

Win a pair of Empire Strikes Back 3D Promo Cards

Posted in Contests by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

The Topps Company is publishing the upcoming Empire Strikes Back 3D Trading Cards to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary. I’m happy to announce that we have a total of 20 Promo cards to give away. These cards are very rare, since they are only sent to distributors/retailers.

Topps wants to show you how nice the 3D effect looks. And believe me, it looks nice. That image does not do them justice at all. The card series will be shipping to stores in May. We are giving away two to each winner.

Apricorn Aegis NetDock

Posted in Apricorn by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

You’ll want to check out the Apricorn Aegis NetDock if you mostly use a netbook. This USB-powered device will offer you an extra four USB 2.0 ports. Two of them are powered and you also get a dual-layer DVD burner and a 2.5 SATA hard drive enclosure for future expansion.

It’s very portable too, measuring just 6.25″ x 5.75″ x 2.125″. It will cost you $89 and there’s a model that comes with a 5400 RPM 500GB hard drive already installed for another $100. Not bad at all.

Convert your slides and film negatives into digital prints with 35MM Slide Scanner

Posted in Scanners by Shane McGlaun on March 15th, 2010

Digital cameras are great things and even older folks like my parents are getting into taking digital photos today. My mom has a ton of photos from when I was a kid that she wants in digital format for her digital frame.

If the negatives are available from the old pictures, you can turn them into digital prints with 5MP resolution using the 35MM Slide Scanner from firstSTREET. The device needs no computer to scan the photos.

Muzatch unveils MZH-1200 solar iPhone charger

Posted in Solar Powered by Shane McGlaun on March 15th, 2010

Getting power for your iPhone from the sun is a great concept. In reality, most of the solar chargers take so long to actually charge using the sun that they are not very practical. A new solar charger has turned up today called the MZH-1200 from Muzach.

The device has a small 1000mAh battery inside that can charge your iPhone about half way if it is dead. It has a four LED charging indicator system and supports several iPod models as well.

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on March 15th, 2010

When it comes time to look for a phone on AT&T, most geeks are going to go for the iPhone. There are some folks out there that want a cheaper device on the AT&T network and the carrier has a couple new handsets coming soon.

The new devices include the Samsung Sunburst sporting a 3-inch touchscreen with onscreen keyboard. The handset also has a 2MP camera/camcorder and supports multiple messaging options. Bluetooth is included and the device supports premium AT&T services.

MSI announces GE700 gaming laptop

Posted in MSI by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

MSI drops more laptops than almost anyone it seems. The latest is the GE700. It’s a bit bigger than the GE600 from a few weeks ago, with a 17.3-inch LCD (resolution unknown), up to a nine cell battery, and room for dual hard disks of up to 500GB each.

Graphics are handled by an ATI Radeon HD5730, an Intel Core i5 chip handles the processing, and there’s a 720p webcam. Nothing on price for this machine just yet, but they should tell the world soon.

Past Present Future Watch is not what your wife wants for your anniversary

Posted in Watches by Shane McGlaun on March 15th, 2010

When your wife drops hints about past, present and future stuff for your anniversary, it’s not this watch she means. Yanko Design has a new watch that you can actually buy on their store.

The watch has no numbers on the face and has labels reading past at 11oclock, present at 12 and future at 1. The watch has a couple turning wheels inside that align to show you the time in numbers that look digital.

Diamond iPad for $19,999

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

Hey there Richie Rich. You might want to hold off on that iPad purchase. I know, you were hoping to look douchey and get it as soon as everyone else, but just hold up a sec. Here’s one that will make you look even more douchey.

The usual downsides apply here. No flash support, non-replaceable battery, the very real certainty that you will be mugged and die, just to name a few. It’s covered with 11.43 carats of diamonds, graded G/H in color, VS2/SI1 in clarity etc.

Nintendo DS2 to be unveiled at E3 with accelerometer and higher-res screens

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

Blogger Raymond Padilla has supposedly gleaned some news about the DS2. The DS2 will have two screens, just like every other DS, but they can be used as two separate screens or one giant screen, displaying the same content across both LCDs. They will be bigger, with “higher resolution,”. No word on if they will be HD.

It will of course have an accelerometer for tilt-motion and supposedly the DS2 will perform similarly to a GameCube or Wii, based on the dev kit. It may also run on a Tegra chip, so we can expect some good speed.

Lenovo L2461x Wide: Full HD Multitouch Monitor

Posted in Lenovo by Conner Flynn on March 15th, 2010

Lenovo has unveiled three new monitors, but the L2461x Wide is the one that has our attention. It features a 23.6-inch (1920×1080) display with capacitive multitouch, a 2MP camera, a USB 2.0 hub with four ports, and full HD support from a white LED backlit panel.

There’s also a 170-degree horizontal viewing angle and it’s Energy Star 5.0 certified, so it won’t kill your electric bill. The other new models are the 23-inch L2361p Wide, which also has full HD support with no multitouch or a camera better than 0.3MPs. The L2261 is a 21.5-inch display with no multitouch or webcam.

E Clock is like having an e-book on your wrist

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

TokyoFlash, those makers of all kinds of wacky and fun watches, have done it again. Now they have created an E-ink display watch to accompany the current e-book craze. Looks pretty sweet. The E Clock can tell the time using normal numbers, or by using patterns of dashes and lines if you like to be mysterious.

It will connect via Bluetooth to your phone, alerting you to calls and texts through vibration or a blinking indicator. It might not look like it, but the band is made from flexible stainless steel. If enough people vote for it, they will make it and offer it up. What do you think?

The Shining Cuckoo Clock

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2010

Cuckoo clocks are fun and amusing. At least they used to be. Not anymore. Not with this Cuckoo clock. This clock is all about the creepiness. It’s a miniature diorama of the “Heeere’s Johnny!” scene from The Shining. No little Cuckoo bird here, though.

Instead you get Jack Nicholson breaking through the door saying “Heeere’s Johnny!”. Shelly Duvall is also there, with a bad case of buttaface, letting out a scream. This happens every hour until you never want to see the movie again.
