Kodak Easyshare M580 digital cam debuts

Posted in Kodak by Shane McGlaun on March 17th, 2010

Some people just can’t figure out digital cameras. My mom is a perfect example, she took tons of pictures back when film cameras were the thing to use and now that digitals have come about she can’t recall how to press a shutter button and simply can’t fathom moving images from the camera to the PC.

She is the sort of person Kodak created the Easyshare M580 digital camera for. The camera has a 14MP sensor and uses a 28mm wide-angle lens with 8x optical zoom. The lens has image stabilization tech for clear mages and the camera can record 720p HD video.

The speaker dock can also be used to playback audio from movies or for VoIP sessions. The iMM190 was supposed to have shipped last month at a price of $129.99 but it never debuted.

When a company wants to appeal to women, they go straight to mimicking makeup colors and design. In this case they have dressed up a flash drive to look like lipstick. Males will be adverse to this one like a Vampire faced with a cross.

But women might dig it. So Buffalo is targeting females with the RUF2-JWS series of flash drives. It comes in 4GB or 8GB sizes and in four different colors, including Rich Brown, Glossy Pink, Royal White, and Shiny Coral.

Xbox 360 gets slim motherboard

Posted in Xbox 360 Elite by Conner Flynn on March 17th, 2010

The image above apparently shows a new model of the Xbox 360. For the first time the console combines the CPU and the GPU in a single chip and it’s smaller. Testing has recently been completed in China. It’s not just a new board for the existing hardware, it’s supposedly a total redesign of the console, like the PS3 Slim.

This remains rumor for now, so take it with a grain of salt, but it makes sense with Natal launching later this year. And since the PS3 slimmed down, the XBox 360 would want to shed some pounds as well.

South Korean scientists transmit broadband signals through a human arm

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2010

Need a hand with your data? How about an arm? Turns out that human skin is a very energy-efficient conduit for transmitting data. And why not? It can transmit electricity. In fact, a recent experiment achieved a rate of 10Mbps. In the experiment they used small, flexible electrodes.

The news might lead to new medical devices that can monitor blood sugar or electrical activity in the heart. Devices that could cut energy needs for a monitoring network by about 90 percent compared to wireless devices that run on batteries.

Cabestan Nostromo watch is full of gears

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on March 16th, 2010

The Cabestan Nostromo watch is one of those watches that you stare at in amazement and picture all of those gears turning. It was inspired by the ship from the Alien movie, hence the name. The Nostromo combines traditional watchmaking with “retro-futuristic audacity”‘

I can only assume that that describes the titanium case and Superluminova phosphorescent coating. You know this one is going to cost you quite a bit.
