Posted in ASUS by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

Asus is always dropping new devices and the latest is a 23-Inch LED-Backlit LCD Monitor, model number MS238H for the European market. It looks really sexy, which is a hard trick for a monitor these days.

This widescreen monitor sports a glossy black bezel, with 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution, a 2ms response time (G2G), 250 cd/m2 brightness, 10,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and features D-Sub and HDMI connectors.

Posted in Scanners by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

The VuPoint PDS-ST410-VP Magic Wand is a portable scanner. Probably how Harry Potter chooses to scan his Hogwarts documents. This device can scan A4 pages with resolutions up to 600 x 600. It will scan a full resolution A4 page in about 28 seconds or a black and white page in less than 4 seconds.

You can also save scanned color or black and white documents on the microSD card. It will cost you $99.99 and it’s compatible with both Mac and Windows platforms.

Gramophone record player and recorder

Posted in Turntables by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

Bah. In my day, records skipped and hissed and crackled in your ear. And that’s the way we liked it. Well, my retro-loving analog friend, check out your new non-digital player. And when I say player, I mean record player. Gakken’s Gramophone kit will take you back in time and it can play records of any size. It uses a bamboo needle to reproduce your vinyl music.

Maybe the coolest feature is that it lets you record your own music directly to vinyl, so you can make your own records. Records which won’t play in your car, on your walkman, in your CD player etc.

ExoPC gets torn apart for your amusement

Posted in Tablet PC by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

You might remember that $599 8.9-inch ExoPC that we showed you last week. Well, its already been lovingly torn apart for your gawking eyes.

Just from the pictures of the tablet, you’ll easily see an Intel Atom N270 CPU, 945 chipset and 2GB worth of RAM. It also appears to have a free SIM slot on its edge. Another obvious thing is the fact that the ExoPC looks like its built pretty solid.

The Motorola MOTOSPLIT

Posted in Motorola by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

According to Motorola, the company plans to out a whole bunch of Android phones in 2010. This render suggests that the MOTOSPLIT might be one of them. Like the Samsung Alias 2, the MOTOSPLIT features a keyboard with tiny touch screens for keys. This one can also slide out in landscape or portrait, with the mini screens updating on the fly.

The downside here is that the specs will be more or less the same as the Backflip. Anyway its just a rumor for now. We’ll see if anything comes of it. If you believe it, Motorola expects the phone to be ready for Q3.

Posted in BlackBerry,Curve by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

Here’s yet another device available in a feminine color to attract the ladies. The Blackberry Curve 8530 Smoky Violet is the perfect gift for the woman in your life this Valentine’s day. She probably likes violet over pink anyway.

You can pick up the BlackBerry Curve 8530 Smoky Violet from Verizon Wireless for as little as 0.01$. If you don’t like Verizon, you can also get the Curve 8530 in a darker shade of Purple for 0.01$ from Sprint. Apparently purple is a big deal right now. Who knew?

Recycled Apple iBook G4 Clock

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on February 7th, 2010

We’ve seen plenty of clocks made from recycled computer parts, but this one is definitely one of the neatest. The Recycled Apple iBook G4 Clock is made from a recycled iBook G4 case, and uses an Apple mouse for the clock pendulum.

The whole thing measures 14 inches wide by 18 inches in height and even features a quartz clock movement, and pendulum movement. It runs on 2 AA batteries. You can’t really call yourself a geek unless you have something like this in your apartment.

Google Maps to add “Google Store Views”

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on February 6th, 2010

Looks like Google Street View may be expanding. Apparently a New York retailer named Oh Nuts, allowed some people from Google to come into the store and take pictures of the inside, every 6 feet, in all directions. Pictures of the items on display were also taken.

Apparently its for a new Google Maps feature called “Google Store View”. Google Store Views will allow people to basically walk into the store from Google Street Views. So imagine you are looking at the store, and then you can click on the door to enter, all on Google Maps.

Yinlips iPad clone with E-Ink

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on February 6th, 2010

Many people love the idea of the iPad, but don’t like the LCD screen. If that’s how you feel then check out what Yinlips has in store. Their iPad lookalike features an E-Ink screen.

Of course there are some downsides. No color here and it won’t run any of those apps you love, but if you don’t mind the trade-off this device may be for you. It features a 6″ E-Ink touchscreen, 20 hours of battery life, and supports PDF, TXT, HTML, and some photo formats.

MacBook Air clone includes a clone box

Posted in MacBook by Conner Flynn on February 5th, 2010

This MacBook Air clone goes the extra mile by including a clone of the MacBooks box as well, along with a manual and necessary drivers. Imagine when you open this package and find that what’s inside isn’t from Cupertino at all.

I wonder if this is enough to get Apple’s lawyers all hot and bothered. However, you have to give the cloner here some credit, it does have a user replaceable battery. It you want the package above, it will cost you $278. Possibly much more if you see this on Ebay and think it’s the real deal.

Toshiba Viamo tablet for doctors

Posted in Toshiba by Conner Flynn on February 5th, 2010

Convertible tablets are everywhere, but very few of them can help a doctor to save your life. Toshiba’s Viamo can. The Viamo is a portable ultrasound device with some tactile knobs and buttons, but it can be entirely controlled by the touchscreen, which folds down flat.

Yes, it looks bulky and it isn’t as portable as other ultrasound machines, but it looks quite a bit more advanced than others. This guy even mounts on a pole so you can wheel it around the ER. Viamo has just been approved by the FDA and is now available in the US. Maybe it will replace the clipboard entirely.

Samsung eyes bringing transparent AMOLED screen notebook to market

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on February 5th, 2010

Nokia has a phone that has a clear screen that was all for looks. I don’t care for being able to see through a screen myself; the feature is more of a gimmick to me. I certainly don’t want to be able to see through the display of my notebook at what is going on behind me.

Samsung showed off a notebook with a transparent AMOLED screen a while back and the notebook was popular enough that reports are now coming in that Samsung plans to bring the notebook to market in the next 12 months. The machine will come with the clear AMOLED screen that will drive the ADD prone to be unproductive.

X2 computing names its tablet the iTablet

Posted in Tablet PC by Shane McGlaun on February 5th, 2010

For a long time many geeks would have bet money that Apple would call its long anticipated tablet computer the iTablet. When the device surfaced as the iPad, I am sure there were more than a few geeks surprised by the name choice.

A company called X2 in the UK has decided if Apple wasn’t going to use the name, it would. The firm has unveiled the iTablet today running Windows 7. The machine uses a 1.6GHz Intel processor and has 250GB of storage space.

USB Electronic Key Impressioner could help thieves

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on February 5th, 2010

This device could be a thieves new best friend. It’s called the Electronic Key Impressioner. You insert it into a car door and it scans the position of the tumblers inside. It then sends that info back to a PC over USB when you are told the car’s model, which can provide the necessary information to cut the perfect key on the first try.

At the moment, it only works on Fords with simple metal keys, but the hope is to expand it so that it supports other manufacturers and maybe even electronic keys someday soon. It’s for locksmiths and authorized security professionals, but thieves will be using it as well, we are sure.
