SunBrite TV lets you watch the big game outside

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

I live in Texas so there are only about three months out of the entire year when it’s nice to be outside. For the other nine months of the year, it is either too hot or too cold to even think about outdoors. If you live in a more temperate area and like to watch TV outside SunBrite has a new set for you called the 5510HD.

The TV has full 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is enclosed in a cabinet that prevents dust, bugs, and water from damaging the sensitive electronics. A fan also allows the TV to operate in temperatures of up to 122 degrees. The contrast ratio for the set is 4000:1.

The outdoor TV has four HDMI connections, component, VGA, S-Video, and composite connections. The TV can also be controlled by IR and has fiber optic transfer of IR signals to allow control of the TV while keeping things dry. The TV is available for $7195.

One thing you forgot to mention in your glowing article about this product is that the display can only be used in the shade. Sure 122 degrees, but in the shade. I have purchased Sunbrite products in the past and the TV is still very difficult to see or watch in the normal outdoor sunlight on a “brite” day. If you let the sun shine directly on the LCD screen the screen goes black. You should at least make consumers or other potential buyers aware that this is a water proof cabinet with a TV in it and nothing else. Otherwise they will have to jump through the same hoops as I did when trying to return a TV that did not operate as advertised. But that is marketing for you.
