Solar Powered Audio Bibles shipped to Haiti

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on January 19th, 2010

Everyone is trying to do their part when it comes to helping those in Haiti. The Faith Comes By Hearing group are doing something as well, but they aren’t sending food, blankets or water. They are sending 600 audible Bibles.

Each of the Bibles can broadcast scriptures in Haitian Creole to an audience of up to 300 people. Aside from those 600 Bibles, they’re also raising money to send 3,000 more solar-powered audio Bibles to Haiti.

It’s great that they want to help, and I’m sure the Bible will comfort some, but one could argue that these people need real items, like food and shelter, not more faith. The bibles can come after we get these people safe.

With people currently having difficulty even getting the water and other supplies they need, as well as the million-and-one difficulties doctors are facing from potential infections & other risks due to the lack of proper medical facilities, is this such a good idea? I mean, it is founded on good grounds, but the resources directed towards this would, I feel, be better spent by getting essential supplies to people who still don’t have them, or by providing doctors with more suitable equipment. I understand the idea behind this charity, and am sure every bit is appreciated over there, but I think the charity does need to re-evaluate.

Faith Comes by Hearing agrees that the Haitian people are greatly in need of supplies, food, water, medications and more. The reason we cannot send anything other than audio Bibles is because our funding comes directly from our donors to produce audio Bibles. To use those funds for other supplies instead would be wrong. The reason we have partnered with organizations providing other needed supplies is to insure that these people’s needs are indeed being met-physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
