CyberPower Black Mamba gaming PC

Posted in PCs by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

In the world of Snakes, the Black Mamba is king. Cyberpower feels the same way about it’s Black Mamba gaming PC. This one uses Corsair’s Obsidian 800D chassis, with an Intel Core i7 platform (Core i7 920, Core i7 975 or Core i7 960 Extreme processors), along with your choice of a Gigabyte, Asus or EVGA X58 motherboard, which you can equip with a water-cooled Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, a maximum of 24GB RAM, Blu-ray and a DVD writer, an SSD/HDD or SSD/HDD RAID setup and a 12-in-1 memory card reader.

How about a 1000W Thermaltake PSU? The CyberPower Black Mamba comes pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and prices start at $3,779. Yes it’s packing some serious venom.

MSI readies dual screen, Nvidia-powered eReader and 3D laptop

Posted in MSI by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

Word on the street is that MSI’s eReader that it plans to unveil at this year’s CES will have Nvidia Tegra graphics and also dual screens. There may also be a 3D laptop in the works.

The Asus dual screen eReader is pictured above. It isn’t a new concept. But does a device like this have a chance, with all of the other tablets? We have no idea, but are inclined to say no. And there is zero info on the 3D laptop. Hopefully we will find out at CES.

Interead expands COOL-ER e-reader line-up, adds content

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

We already knew about Interead’s COOL-ER 3G e-book reader, but now they are announcing a new WiFi-equipped COOL-ER Connect model. Details are in short supply, but the reader will apparently have a touchscreen and weigh only 5.8 ounces.

Look for it to be available this Spring. The COOL-ER 3G is scheduled for mid-2010. Interead has also announced a new line of content for its e-book readers. Like the Coolermatic application for instance, which will let users access over 1,400 newspapers and “select websites,”. Twitter feeds as well, but with no posting.

Skiff Reader coming to a Sprint Store near you

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

I hear ya, Amazon’s Kindle DX is big. It is, but it’s not the biggest any more. The Skiff Reader is the biggest in town now at just a quarter inch thick. It features a 1600 x 1200 11.5-inch touchscreen (finger and stylus) that should be much better for magazine and newspaper layouts.

Skiff also has 4GB of on-board storage (with over 3GB available for content), SD card expansion, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Content can be loaded via a mini USB jack or through WiFi and 3G is also an option thanks to Sprint, who will sell the Skiff this year for an unknown price.

AirStash wireless iPhone storage

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

iPhones and iPod Touches come in 32GB capacities now, but if you have an earlier model you may be stuck with 8GB. What can you do? Well, you can get an AirStash. The device adds wireless storage to your i-device so you can free up some internal storage.

It looks like a large flash drive with a USB plug on one end and an SD slot on the other. Just charge it, load some content on it and you are good to go. You can connect to it wirelessly from your handset. There are some security concerns, but hopefully they will be addressed real soon.

Thecus announces N4200 NAS device

Posted in Storage by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

NAS devices used to be pretty much exclusive to the office and enterprise settings to allow for central data backups. With many consumers now producing and using tons of digital content the NAS is also finding its way into homes.

Thecus has unveiled its latest NAS product called the N4200. The device has smart bays that will work with SATA drives of 2.5-inches and 3.5-inches. The device has a built-in battery back up to preserve settings and unwritten data in the event of a blackout.

WiPower unveils Wireless Power Mobile Design Kit

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

I think one of the most popular features on many mobile phones moving forward will be wireless charging. The Pre has a wireless charger option already, but most phones have to be connected to a wire to charge. I use a WildCharge case and charge pad for my iPhone to charge the device without needing wires, and it is great.

WiPower has announced a new developer’s kit for its technology called the Wireless Power Mobile Design Kit. The kit includes the wireless power charge base, access to white label transmitters and a wireless power transmitter good for up to 15W.

Samsung unveils NX10 digital camera

Posted in Samsung by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

Samsung has unveiled a new digital camera called the NX10 that isn’t a point-and-shoot and isn’t a DSLR. The camera has interchangeable lenses but lacks the mirror system of a DSLR. The image sensor is also larger than the micro four thirds cameras on the market and the cam uses a slightly larger lens connection than the aforementioned cameras.

The NX10 has a image sensor with 14.6MP resolution and will come in black or silver colors. The display is a 3-inch AMOLED screen that promises reduced power consumption. ISO range for the camera is 100- 3200 and the cam has a built-in flash.

SunBrite TV lets you watch the big game outside

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on January 4th, 2010

I live in Texas so there are only about three months out of the entire year when it’s nice to be outside. For the other nine months of the year, it is either too hot or too cold to even think about outdoors. If you live in a more temperate area and like to watch TV outside SunBrite has a new set for you called the 5510HD.

The TV has full 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is enclosed in a cabinet that prevents dust, bugs, and water from damaging the sensitive electronics. A fan also allows the TV to operate in temperatures of up to 122 degrees. The contrast ratio for the set is 4000:1.

2Oct2031 concept watch

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

The 2Oct2031 concept watch looks like a Sci-fi movie prop. That’s what we love about it. It’s part stealth, part alien, all cool. It’s from designer Tao Ma. The 2Oct2031 concept watch has angles that might be from a stealth plane or a diamond.

This one will be aimed at the Chinese market, but the concept watch isn’t ready for production just yet. We hope that other watch makers are paying attention. We want more like this.

ZOMM wireless leash for cellphones

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

You have leashes for your pets, why not your cellphone? I mean you don’t want to lose it right? So put it on a leash. Sure this thing looks like a futuristic hockey puck or a smart urinal cake, but it’s a leash called ZOMM. If you lose your mobile phone, just attach the ZOMM to your keychain and it lets you hear and take incoming calls.

It also features a one-touch emergency dial for 911 and emits an alarm to warn you you’re moving too far from your handset. The device should retail for about $80.

Commoto rolling fireplace

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

Forget dragging yourself to the fireplace, let the fireplace come to you. Roll it back and forth. Surely that can’t be dangerous. For €2,490 (or $3567) you can have one of these fireplaces that combines the inventions of fire and the wheel in one unit.

It uses bio-ethanol as its combustion source. Roll it wherever you want. It will warm any part of the house that’s cold. Just don’t tip it over. That would be bad.

HDBT-990 Wristband Communicator

Posted in Watches by Conner Flynn on January 4th, 2010

Think of the HDBT-990 Wristband Communicator as a cellphone watch de-volved. It’s as if the industry has given up on the idea of a cellphone watch and focused instead on the communicator from Star Trek I. This is basically just a Bluetooth headset on your wrist.

One that costs $85 and lacks any style at all. If this is the future, then the future is ugly and awkward. Freeze me now and wake me up when I can call someone on my wrist in style.

Star Wars Lightsaber MP3 player

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on January 3rd, 2010

We all know by now that lightsabers make noises, fake noises from the mouths of nerds as they pretend to slice through enemies. Well, here’s a real lightsaber hilt that makes real noise. It plays your favorite music, which is probably from one of the movie’s soundtracks.

It’s available in two different versions and measures 3.14 inches. They also feature microSD card slots, but no display sadly. They will simply playback music directly from a card. The Star Wars Lightsaber MP3 Player is available for just under $24.
