iTamtam stool has an iPod dock built-in

Posted in iPod Accessories by Shane McGlaun on January 12th, 2010

I never cease to be amazed at the weird accessories that you can find for the iPhone and iPods. I continue to be almost as amazed at what the manufacturers expect consumers to pay for some of these weird accessories.

A company called Branex has unveiled a new iPod docking stool called the iTamtam. Yeah, you read that right a stool with an iPod dock. Under the butt section of the seat are four tweeters and a 5.25-inch woofer.

If your computer is vital to your business or pleasure, you may want to seriously consider something a bit more substantial than just backing up your data. Even if you have a recent back up, getting the OS installed and the software back on a new HDD can take hours.

What you need is a HDD clone device like the new 1:1 HDD Copy Cruiser Mini from Alereatec. The device makes an exact clone of your HDD down to the MBR and all partitions. That means in the event of a failure you just change the drive and keep working.

Cadillac debuts 2011 CTS-V coupe

Posted in Automotive by Shane McGlaun on January 12th, 2010

That sweet Viper was certainly cool, but if you need a sports car that will haul groceries and more than two people, Cadillac has debuted a new version of the powerful CTS-V. Previous versions of the CTS-V were four door cars, but the new one is a coupe.

The new coupe has the same 556HP 6.2 liter V8 engine and can be had with a 6-speed manual or auto transmission. The car also gets magnetic ride suspension and big Brembo brakes.

Dodge Viper ACR 1:33 debuts in Detroit

Posted in Automotive by Shane McGlaun on January 12th, 2010

The North American International Auto Show has kicked off in Detroit and so far, there have been cool cars to suit just about every taste unveiled. My personal tastes lean towards powerful and sexy sports cars like the dead sexy Viper ACR 1:33 that has debuted.

The first time I saw the name of the car I thought it was some sort of 1/33 scale replica or something. The name is an homage to the Dodge racing driver Chris Winkler’s fastest ever lap of Laguna Seca for a production sports car of 1:33:944 seconds.

Brace yourself for the latest iPhone 4G rumor. This will surprise no one, but according to sources in Korea, the next iPhone will likely be named the “iPhone 4G”. Sources even claim that KT has signed a deal with Apple to release the iPhone 4G in June, when the phone is launched worldwide.

The rumor claims that the iPhone 4G will feature 2 cameras for video calling, better battery life, and maybe mobile TV service (That could just be for Korea). What Do you think? Anything to these rumors?

TeleAdapt MediaHub HD

Want to make hotel visits more entertaining? As in, enjoying your own tunes or movies, instead of the same old boring TV channels? Well, if hotels adopt the TeleAdapt TA-7650 MediaHub HD, your hotel visit will be very different.

This device allows you to “have it your way” and play media from your portable devices wirelessly to the TV, so if you have a media player, whether it’s an iPod or anything else, you’ll be able to connect it to the television in your hotel room. Assuming you stay in the hotel for most of your trip, this could be great.

Google may use real-time ads on old billboards in Street View

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on January 12th, 2010

Those outdated billboards in Google Street View are not just outdated, but they’re an opportunity for Google, who has filed a patent entitled “Claiming Real Estate in Panoramic or 3D Mapping Environments for Advertising,”. The patent should allow them to cut out billboards shown in Street View and replace them with their own current ads.

Apparently this would be done by working with whoever owns the space. For instance a theater owner could keep the posters out front up to date at all times. We can’t think of any other way in which this would work, since they are putting ads on other people’s property without permission. It’s an interesting move by the big G.

Phone concept powered by Coke

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on January 12th, 2010

It’s hard enough keeping our gadgets charged with electricity, but now they are stealing our Coke and will soon leave us thirsty. Chinese designer Daizi Zheng has a cylindrical Nokia straight from the future that drinks Coca-Cola to stay juiced.

All you do is unscrew the top and pour the coke in. According to Daizi a single can of Coke could last longer than a lithium ion battery by three or four times. Though I’m not sure it helps the environment any. I recently heard somewhere that a single liter of coke takes something like 800 gallons of water to produce.

AR.DRONE From Parrot controlled by iPhone

Posted in R/C Toys by Darrin Olson on January 11th, 2010

ar.drone controlled by iPhoneThe folks at Parrot have released a new toy RC toy called the AR.Drone, a “quadricopter” that can be controlled and viewed with an iPhone or iPod touch through a WiFi connection. The AR.DRONE works like a remote control helicopter with four separate helicopter blades to maneuver the device, but that is definitely not what makes this copter cool.

What really sets this guy apart from the others is that you can control it with your iPhone or iPod touch using the built-in accelerometers which will sense which way you tip the phone and maneuver the AR.Drone accordingly. The quadricopter also has a couple of cameras on board, one for “seeing” what the AR.Drone sees real-time through the iPhone, but also another camera on the bottom which can track speed and help the ‘copter maintain a still flight.

Cleavage Caddy makes your boobs look like an episode of Hoarders

Posted in Apparel by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2010

I’m an adult, so I’m well aware that some women tuck things away and hide them in their massive cleavage, whether it be a key, a wad of cash, whatever. But I never knew that they hid enough things in there to warrant the Cleavage Caddy, which is basically a boob wallet. A brallet if you will.

But if you start storing stuff in your Cleavage Caddy, doesn’t that just make boobs look all misshapen and angular rather than pleasing to the male eye? This might be better marketed at guys with man-boobs.

Samsung MyFit tells you to drink water, not to smoke

Posted in Exercise Gadgets by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2010

Samsung’s MyFit is a player for those who enjoy working out and keeping fit. The device has 8GB of space, the usual video codec support, an FM radio and it’s equipped with an accelerometer and a tracking system that tells you how many calories you’ve burned.

You can also record your caloric consumption per meal though a fitness manager application. Need to know when to drink water? It will tell you. It also has a function that will yell at you when you’re smoking.

Cinq parks an extra 10-inch monitor on your laptop

Posted in monitors by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2010

Are you looking for some extra screen real estate on your laptop? Instead of upgrading to a larger laptop, why not just park another screen next to the one you already use? The Cinq is a 10-inch USB monitor that you can hang on the side of your screen, giving you some extra space.

It’s not just a screen, it also has an SD card reader attached. Sure it looks like a rear view mirror for laptops, but it could come in handy. It will be released in the third quarter of this year for $249.

At last, you can fly your own X-Wing

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on January 11th, 2010

As a kid(Or even an adult) how many times have you tried to use the force to lift your X-wing toy as if you were Yoda extracting it from the swamp. Sadly, your efforts always fail so you heat up another hot-pocket and get back to your nerd message boards.

Well now you really can control your own X-wing, even if it isn’t with the power of your mind. The RCX4 Star Stryker Helicopter is a remote-controlled X-Wing with four helicopter propellers on board. It can hover in place as well as fly in all directions. But sadly I see no room for Luke’s action figure.
