Humanscale Element LED task light is green and expensive

I never really put much thought into the chair or desk that I used when I first started writing full time. After sitting in front of a computer screen typing for hours and hours each day you quickly come to realize that a comfortable chair and an ergonomic desk are money well spent. Humanscale makes all sorts of ergonomic chairs and gear for office workers.

The company has announced an interesting a green new task light called the Element. The light uses MCX LED technology with a single multi-chip LED that can produce a large light footprint. By using a single LED rather than multiple LEDs, Humanscale was able to eliminate shadows on the desktop.

The LED produces neutral-white light at 3500 Kelvin that is comfortable for reading. The LED is rated for 60,000 hours and needs only 7W of power to produce the same light output as a 70W incandescent. The Element is made from 81% recycled material and is itself 99% recyclable. The only downside here is the $338 price tag.
