Are HP webcams racist?

Posted in Humor by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

So apparently the face tracking feature of the HP web cam will not recognize or track black faces as demonstrated in this video. Many users don’t have any problems with face tracking but, “As soon as my blackness enters the frame…”

Man, in this day and age? HP should get right on this. This is horrible. Obama is in the white house now. Are HP webcams rascist? Well, they Seem to track Wanda just fine. You be the judge.

Picture table: Hide your kitchen table on the wall

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

Kitchen tables take up so much room in our homes. And we only use them for eating, so they don’t get used nearly often enough to justify the space they consume. The Picture Table aims to cure that, letting you use the table and then get it out of the way.

The Picture Table is like any normal table, but when you are done using it and want some space back, just flip it up onto the wall and it becomes a large frame. Great idea, especially if you live in an apartment.

Head massaging hat won’t help with the ladies

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

We all love a good head massage and even though we prefer the human touch, that isn’t always possible. Enter this dorky hat, which will massage your head while also keeping others far away from you.

The uCrown 2 head massager combines air pressure technology, vibration massage, magnetic therapy, heat, and even built in speakers so you can play relaxing music. The uCrown 2 will relieve stress while relaxing your muscles. It will make those around you point and laugh, while you cry.

Pixel art made from bacteria

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

Scientists must have already discovered everything they need to know, so they have plenty of time for play. This looks like a cool piece of Mario art and it is, but this is created using glowing bacteria.

These pixels are made from genetically engineered bacteria and come from Team Osaka, at the nanobiology laboratories at the University of Osaka, Japan. Now you know what all that fancy lab equipment is really being used for.

Star Wars weather forecast

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

Geeks don’t understand all kinds of fancy weather talk. We don’t know what precipitation means, or barometric pressure, or wind chill. Just make it easy by telling us in Star Wars terms what’s going on outside. That we understand.

If it’s snowing, it’s like Hoth. If it is hot as hell out, it’s like Tatooine. Easy. That’s the idea behind Tom Scott’s Star Wars Weather Forecast. Weather made easy. Besides it’s good to know when you might have to crawl inside a Tauntaun for warmth.

Artopz Minitopz nettop lampChances are if you want a nettop it’s because they are a cheap. The folks at Artopz don’t seem to understand this concept since the Artopz Minitopz is priced at $2,375. It features an Intel dual-core Atom processor, NVIDIA ION graphics, Wi-Fi, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, DVD burner, HDMI output and Windows 7, plus an artsy fartsy design.

For those extra dollars you get a functioning lamp and the company says the LED light is the equivalent of a 20 watt light bulb. A very expensive 20 watt bulb.

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on December 20th, 2009

BOSS Wii controller shell brings back the SNES, for giantsThe B.O.S.S. controller from Performance Designed Products, is not really a controller, but a shell made to look like an SNES controller. It slides over your Wiimote and turns it into a huge controller fit for giants. We can’t imagine that it’s actually usable due to the size though.

Still for the big handed among you, it’s only $10 and hey, the name is done up in Mario colors, so it can’t be all bad right?

Mini GenevaSound iPod dock

Mini GenevaSound iPod dockThe GenevaSound iPod dock is gargantuan. But now you can get a much smaller version that sports the same style in this GenevaSound System Model S.

What this one lacks in size it makes up for in glossiness, with a lipstick red color. The price is also smaller than the original at $300. Looks like it also comes in black and silver if red is too bright for you.

Game Boy hidden in a calculator

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 19th, 2009

Game Boy hidden in a calculatorThis is the best way to play video games while at school. Everyone thinks you are doing a complex math problem, but really you are getting your game on. The only problem is, you are going to be in trouble if you have an actual math problem to do.

This mod took it’s creator about 13 hours to complete, which is understandable. Most of that time was likely spent playing Mario games and Tetris. I hope the teacher doesn’t read this.

Sony and RealD 3D team for home 3D gear

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on December 18th, 2009

reald-logo-sgI was glad to hear this week that the specifications for 3D Blu-ray had been finalized. I was even more excited to hear that my PS3 would support 3D Blu-ray reaffirming my feeling that the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player around.

Sony and RealD announced today that they were teaming up to bring RealD 3D tech to the home in Sony TVs and other products. If you have seen a 3D film at the theater recently it was probably powered by RealD tech.
