Trolley Luggage Scooter makes you the envy of kids at the airport

Posted in Baggage by Shane McGlaun on December 7th, 2009

trolley-scooter_01Long treks through the airport suck. They are especially sucky when the long trek is done at a run so you don’t miss your flight or because you need to pee after slurping down in-flight cocktails. A new suitcase promises to get you around the terminal faster and make kids jealous.

The device is the Trolley Scooter that puts a roughly backpack size bag on a folding scooter frame. The bag is the result of a partnership with Samsonite and Micro Mobility. When unfolded you end up with a scooter that has two wheels up front and one in the rear for zipping around on.

audiotechatlp2dusb-4uI was never one to really take care of the records I had when I was young. The fact that my brother always used my Funky Town single as a Frisbee didn’t help the longevity of my record collection either. If you have lots of vinyl records that you want to convert to digital files Audio-Technica has a new, and lower cost USB turntable.

The new turntable is called the AT-LP2D-USB and it connects to a computer via USB. The turntable has an aluminum platter, Dual Magnet stereo cartridge with replaceable stylus, and a tone arm with damping control.

The feature isn’t more pockets or flashy colors. The special feature is that the case can double as a lap desk for your machine with an angled lid that holds the screen at a higher level for more comfortable use.

Chumby goes old time with the ChumbophoneWe all know how versatile Chumby is. This old time gadget above was created with a set of Chumby Guts, an old clock and some brass horns, along with a Dremel by Etsy member AbrahamBook.

It’s a WiFi-enabled Chumby lovingly shoved into a vintage steampunk-styled enclosure. We’re guessing that the Chumbophone doesn’t actually make calls using the horns, but we still dig it. What do you think? Ready to hit the antique store and start modding?

A faucet with a new twist

A faucet with a new twistMost faucets don’t require a lot of work. Just open the valve and you get a steady stream of water. But environmentalists worry that the fresh water supply will become a shortage in the future.

So we need something that will make us think about how much water we are using. That’s why designer Harvey Bewley created this Twist Faucet. The Twist makes you work for your water by cranking the knob in and out. Thereby reminding you that water is a precious resource. It also has a digital readout that shows your consumption, along with water temperature.

World's smallest snowman built without snow There is an unseen world, filled with tiny things which resides in our own. It just got a little more festive. Scientists at the National Physical Laboratory have built the world’s smallest snowman. And they didn’t create it using balls of snow.

Instead they used two tiny beads. Beads typically used by physicists to calibrate electron microscope lenses. The pieces were welded together with platinum. It measures just 0.01mm (1/5 the width of human hair). It’s the result of manipulation of nanotech particles.

If you’re like us, you probably think that these constant ad battles between AT&T and Verizon are getting really old. Who can keep track anymore. Lawsuit is countered by lawsuit, then there’s a lull, then more ads slinging mud at each other.

Here’s AT&T’s latest. Another ad featuring Luke Wilson. The ad is all about the speed of AT&T’s network compared to Verizon. Why can’t they use this ad money and put it toward making their networks better? What’s next? The other half of the annoying Wilson brother duo rooting for the opposing team?

Rocketfish laptop case

Posted in Notebooks by Conner Flynn on December 6th, 2009

Rocketfish laptop caseThe Rocketfish Laptop Case may not be all that stylish, but it is super useful as it can be folded inside out and double as a portable laptop desk. It will accommodate laptops up to 15.4-inches and for only $49.99, which won’t break the bank.

It would be great for car trips and vacations. Just take your laptop out of the case, fold the case and you are good to go. If they added just a bit of style to this, more users might be interested at that price.
