Posted in Digital Photo Frames by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2009

UD7 USB display reads TweetsIf you’re tired of looking at your large desktop display to read your Tweets, then maybe it’s time to check out the UD7 USB display. This display will receive and display your Twitter updates, display system stats and other information.

Yes, this is basically a digital photo frame for $30. That isn’t too expensive if you have to see your tweets off your main display. Assuming you can see them at all since this is just 1.5 inches in size. They don’t call it micro-blogging for nothing.

Posted in ebooks by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2009

Aluratek's $179 Libre eBook readerThe Libre eBook Reader PRO doesn’t have an e-Ink display, instead it has a monochrome reflective light LCD with a 2GB SD card. That sets it apart from the other recent eBook readers. And it’s only $179. The reader even boasts 24 hours of continuous use and supports MP3 and photos.

It’s only 5 inches and can handle ePub, PDF, TXT, Mobi, PRC and RTF formats. That makes it handy for those of you who download books from “non-official” sources. If you don’t download, the Libre comes with 100 “free” books as well.

The Christmas Truck

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2009

The Christmas TruckCentral Iowa has had many versions of the Christmas truck over the last 25 years. Here’s how it began. Kris Marshall was carrying a generator and some Christmas lights to his church in his $50 used truck. Much like peanut butter and chocolate, the two combined to create something awesome and The Christmas Truck was born.

It’s not high-tech. Just lights taped to the truck. During the day it looks horrible. At night, it’s amazing. Marshall has since used eight trucks and added dozens of strands. The truck is always a 2WD Chevy/GMC with a regular cab and eight-foot truck bed.

Pandora wants to stream music in your car

Pandora wants to stream music in your carPandora has it’s sights set on a variety of options for in-car music streaming. The news comes straight from Pandora’s Chief Technology Officer, who told attendees at the SF Music Tech Summit that the company is working with car manufacturers to more thoroughly integrate Pandora into vehicles.

Apparently the first thing they are concentrating on is an in-dash or hands-free option so you can use a docked device running Pandora. Then, “within a few years,” that could evolve to include Pandora services built right into in-car entertainment systems.

Flat screen protecting TV Armor Review

Posted in Accessories by Darrin Olson on December 9th, 2009

TV Armor protects flat screenGetting a new high-end flat screen LCD, plasma or LED TV this holiday season and have kids, pets or maybe a moderately clumsy person in the house? You may want to consider protecting the display on that investment with one of these acrylic protective shields from TV Armor.

We wrote about protective products from TV Armor back in September and since then the company has really been gaining traction and popularity. Let’s face it, even though flat-screen TV’s are getting a little less expensive they still are certainly not cheap. The last thing you want is a pet or kids toy, or worse yet this guy over to your house and smash something into that new big screen.

R2-D2 string lights for your geek Christmas treeNothing says Christmas like a string or two of droid lights on your Christmas tree. Besides you probably already have all of the other Star Wars ornaments on your tree.

It’s like having a whole clone army of Astromechs. The little robot lights come in a set of 10 per strand and are 12 inches apart. These are priced at about $15-$25. And if you don’t want them on your tree they make great geek gifts.

Portable DVD projector

Posted in Projectors by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2009

Portable DVD projectorCheck out this somewhat retro and overly plasticized portable projector with a built-in DVD player. It looks like an old Viewmaster-type toy. But it’s not all about looks. It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Because what it does is allow you to plug it in, pop in a DVD, and watch a movie on a 50-inch screen in about 3 minutes. Anywhere.

Can’t beat that right? You don’t buy this for the design and you won’t base your home theater setup around it, but it’s damn convenient.

Spycam Lighter Camera

Posted in Spy Gear by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2009

Spycam Lighter CameraThere are so many items that could be spying on us today and we might never know. This one is a video camera disguised as a standard classic style lighter. The only problem with a spy gadget like this is illustrated below.

“Say, you don’t smoke do you?”
“Nope”
“Then why do you have that lighter there on your desk?”
“Oh I just started.”
“I see. Why do you keep pointing it at me while we talk?”
“I’m just fidgety like that”
“When I walked in, it was on the floor. Then you picked it up and positioned it-. Nevermind. I’m being paranoid.”
“What you think this is a camera? You think I’m after some upskirt pics? You’re silly. Anyway, where were we?”

Target cashiers now play a “game” at the register

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2009

Target cashiers now play a "game" at the registerLooks like Target cashiers now play a “game” when they check you out at the register. The score depends on how fast you’re doing your job. And yes, we realize that this game sucks and looks like no fun at all. But hey, that’s life working at Target right? I’ve played games on a watch that are more interesting than this.

It sounds like a great way to shame employees into working faster. Especially after a few cashiers start acting all snooty because they hold the high score. Then you want to put them in their place and beat them. But only “the man” wins in this scenario.

Posted in Speakers by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2009

Cassette iPod speakerCheck out this retro cassette speaker. The device will work with any MP3 player that has a 3.5 mm audio jack. Yes, it’s yet another thing that looks like a cassette tape. In this case, it’s a speaker. One that will immediately make your player look ugly, while adding some girth. But if you want some retro in an MP3 speaker, this thing will only cost you $19.99.

Ah, you’ve noticed that male receptacle hanging from the bottom of the cassette. Well, let me explain. When a cassette speaker loves an MP3 player very very much…
