The Batmobile Limo

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2009

The Batmobile LimoThis stretch limo Batmobile is what Batman and Robin ride around in on their off hours. Maybe Bruce wants to take Robin out for some Ice cream or to the opera. Nothing wrong with a rich dude taking his child ward out on the town in a stretch limo is there? I mean sure, you could take a lady friend, but…We’ll you and boy wonder have an odd relationship.

Maybe they have the Joker in the trunk. Who knows. What I do know is that Bruce Wayne sure knows how to travel in style while giving away his secret identity.

Hacked Wiimote saves scientists money

Hacked Wiimote saves scientists moneyHacking a Wiimote is nothing new, but William Luxemburg from the Delft University of Technology is using the Wiimote and an LED light as a water-level sensor, measuring evaporation. The image tells the story. Just a tub of water with a Wiimote pointing at a plastic boat.

It’s simple and cost-effective and yields the same, or better results than pressure sensors that cost $500 or more. He re-programmed the Wiimote’s output and when it was connected wirelessly to a laptop he was able to receive real-time information on what the water level was doing in the tub.

Android Market reaches 20,000 apps, with over 60 percent free

Android Market reaches 20,000 apps, with over 60 percent freeSure, with 20,000 of anything it doesn’t mean they are all quality, but it’s a notable milestone. The Android Market has now topped 20,000 apps in just over a year. Just FYI, Apple’s App Store had over 50,000 apps one year in.

What’s interesting here is the percentage of free and paid apps in the Market. According to AndroLib, 62.2% of the apps available are completely free, while 37.8% are paid apps. Compare that to the App Store, which now has over 100,000 individual apps and by some counts, 77% are paid applications, though only 30% of total App Store downloads are for paid apps. What it means is anyone’s guess, but markets for apps are very healthy indeed.

Mysterious Google countdown

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2009

Mysterious Google countdownHas anyone noticed the somewhat hidden countdown timer on Google’s main page? You don’t see it until you hit the “I’m feeling lucky” button without anything to search for. Then it mysteriously shows up.

In US time, the timer ends at the New Year, but obviously that isn’t it. What else is going on with Google that they might want to announce? The launch of the Google Nexus One perhaps? That’s what our money is on.

Nintendo Files Trademark For Zii

Posted in Nintendo by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2009

wii-sbNintendo has filed Trademark for the name Zii. Huge mistake for such a large company since Creative already owns it. Could be they want to call the next Wii, the Zii, but Creative might disagree.

The trademark recently popped up on the Japanese trademark database. The filing covers video games and electronic devices, but contains little information. Our guess is that it might be the HD Wii that we’ve heard rumors about. Hopefully more info will come soon.

MacBook makes a run for the border, gets shotIt’s understandable to pay attention to your own safety when traveling abroad, but who knew that you had to worry about your laptop? Here’s the story. A young American woman was traveling to Jerusalem when gung-ho border security officers ask her a bunch of questions. They must not have liked the answers, so they went all pew pew pew and shot up her MacBook.

After that she was allowed entry into the country with her bullet-riddled MacBook. The woman has been promised compensation. What do you think? Was he just a PC guy?

Better Mousetrap delivers 102lbs of force Makers of mouse killing traps are all about the power. For one thing it insures that the mouse dies fast, so it’s more humane. Jake Easton’s “Better Mousetrap“, powered by compressed air and triggered by motion sensors, is much like any typical trap, just “a lot more fun to watch”.

The trap weighs 5.5 lbs in all, thanks to its 0.25-inch thick hand-crafted aluminum case, various solenoids, valves and electronics. The deadliest part if you are a mouse is the 60psi of pressure. At just 40psi, the trap snaps shut with 102lbs of strike force.

XBox Millennium Falcon mod

XBox Millennium Falcon modCheck out this XBox Millennium Falcon mod that looks like an Imperial version of the ship. You can make one too thanks to the complete instructions provided. It’s not an easy mod though. You’ll need to know how to grind with a dremel and solder and do some wiring.

But in the end you’ll get an XBox inside of a classic Kenner 1979 Millennium Falcon toy and all of that hard work will have payed off. Though I’m not sure there will be room for Han and Chewie any longer.

USB Surgeon flash drive

USB Surgeon flash driveMedical enthusiasts will dig this flash drive because it is in the form of a tiny USB surgeon. On the other hand if you hate surgeons, you also will love this. Because you can decapitate him.

After a little pretend surgery, you can attach the head once again and hope the little guy has health insurance. If you buy a few of these guys, you’ll be re-enacting scenes from MASH and Grey’s Anatomy in no time. It’s a drive and an action figure.

Kinesis Advantage keyboard

Kinesis Advantage keyboardTake a look at this keyboard. Do you think that this would be better for your hands than the standard type? To me it looks downright painful to use. But maybe it just looks that way. Maybe it will be ultra comfortable. Priced at $300, you and I will never know.

That’s right, $300. That’s a lot of money to pay for no guarantee that it will be a good keyboard. If any of you have a spare $300 to gamble on this thing, let us know how badly your hands are cramping up while you write us.

Kindle for iPhone now available internationally

Kindle for iPhone now available internationallyMerry Christmas to the international community. The Kindle app for iPhone has launched internationally in over 60 countries. It’s very good news, tinged with some bad. The bad news? It will be localized in English.

You won’t need to find a workaround anymore. Maybe now Amazon can concentrate on adding some non-English-language books to the Kindle store. You know, for those international users.
