I am not a musician, as close as I get to making music is Rock Band. I can only imagine how much time it would take to learn an instrument like the piano or guitar that have been around for ages, much less learning to play a brand new type of instrument like the Eigenharp.

The Eigenharp is a strange cross between a wind instrument, a keyboard, and a string instrument. Two versions are offered including the Pico and the Alpha. The Alpha versions is a full-size concert version of the device and the Pico is a small handheld version.

This winter Olympics are set to kick off this winter. I can’t imagine what sort of undertaking hosting the Olympic games is. I am sure that it take hoards of computers though. Acer is a worldwide Olympic partner and the company has unveiled some special edition hardware to celebrate.

Acer has special edition Aspire 1810T, Aspire 4810T, and Aspire 1210 notebooks. The machines sport the Acer Olympic logo on the cover and the wrist rest area. Acer also has a special edition G245H LCD that has the Olympic logo on it too.

You can cover any gadget in swarovski crystals, diamonds and even gold. But underneath, it’s still what it is. In this case we have a Wii covered in gold and diamonds. Yep, beneath all that glitter it’s still a Wii.

A Wii that will cost you £299,995 or about $483,000. It’s called the Nintendo Wii Supreme and it’s covered in 2,500 grams of solid 22ct gold. But that wasn’t enough so the front buttons are 78 x 0.25 ct Flawless diamonds which total 19.5 ct.

Oh joy. The Blu-ray Disc Association has now issued the official specs for 3D Blu-ray, confirming that the discs will be backwards-compatible. The PS3 will be able to play 3D Blu-ray discs, and upcoming 3D players will be able to play 2D discs as well.

The discs will use Multiview Video Coding (or MVC) and will use 50 per cent less space on discs compared to 2D content. The content will be full 1080p, so even though you’re watching your flick in 3D, the quality should be good still.

According to a new study by Scott Owens out of the University of Mississippi, the Wii Fit has very little effect on family fitness levels. A Wii Fit was loaned to eight families and their usage and fitness impact were tracked over time (three months before they got the Wii, and three months after).

The final verdict seems to be that there are “No significant changes” in family fitness from the Wii. Over the period of three months Wii Fit usage went down by an amazing 82 percent, from 22 minutes a day for the first half of the time, all the way down to an average of four minutes a day in the last six weeks. The children did display some “significant” increases in the area of aerobic fitness. Basically it seems that people got bored, otherwise they may have done better.

This winter several American states are reporting that LED traffic lights are so energy efficient that they don’t produce enough heat to melt any snow that covers them. And this is causing accidents. One of the side effects of the previously used incandescent light bulbs was that they would melt any snow that covered them.

So the new LEDs have caused a few accidents and even a death is being blamed on them. Not to worry though, a fix is being worked on. I’m surprised none of the engineers thought of this problem before hand.

There are so many iPod docks on the market that it is hard to find one that is unique or has anything new to offer. The new JVC XS-SR3 is an interesting dock though with the ability to hold the iPod vertically or horizontally. You might recall this thing first tipped up back in October, but we didn’t have pricing or availability info at the time.

Users can take advantage of the docks virtual Dolby surround sound for watching movies on the iPod or for listening to music. The dock is designed with a glossy black speaker tube with a curved design. The speakers in the dock use neodymium magnets for crisp clean sound.

PMP maker OPPO will launch their first Android-powered smartphone in the first quarter of 2010. It looks like it came right out of the future. The phone features a 3.5-inch WQGA (800 x 480) capacitive multitouch screen, a QWERTY keyboard, WiFi and of course the Android OS.

I guess the company must be pretty confident in their PMP player abilities to make the leap to smartphones. There really isn’t much info right now, but we like the design. Especially the slide-out (transparent?) display with edge lighting.

Packard Bell has a new theme for their new dot laptops. The Valentino Rossi edition will offer up some style on the outside.There are no details on specs, but the laptop may have an Intel CULV processor, GMA 4500MHD graphics and maybe a terabyte or more.

That’s all guesswork, but the design actually looks stylish. This one might just appeal to both sexes. Apparently Rossi is an Italian motorcycle racer or something. All you really need to know is that it’s pretty and you want it.

Calculators just aren’t cool. They have long been associated with nerds that wear taped-up glasses and pocket protectors. Well, this calculator should help you nerds up your game a bit since it looks like a video game controller. All of the buttons are in the right place.

This calculator has 27 functions, an 8 digit LCD display, and a two handed design. It won’t kill zombies, or cure geek acne, but it will kill math problems dead and make homework faster.

Soon you’ll be tweeting and retweeting in glorious HD thanks to Microsoft, who is planning to release a Twitter app for the Zune HD personal media player. The free app will be available tomorrow morning at 9 AM sharp, downloadable via the Zune software on a PC or over a wireless connection.

So at 9 AM you can expect a million tweets of “Got my Zune HD Twitter App…” which will lead to the fail whale, casting darkness over the land of tweet.

I’m sick of remembering passwords, but I know my face when I see it. So does the Lockface USB drive. It uses facial recognition so that only you have access to your files. And it mocks you with a goofy face of it’s own.

It’s easy to use. Just take some photos of your face. Then, when you are in front of your webcam, it will see you and recognize your mug with 98% accuracy. There’s also a password failsafe, which kinda defeats the whole purpose.

This may not be the most powerful camera on the market and you won’t find a ton of fancy features, but if you’re looking for a cheap camcorder, this may be the one for you. The Yashica DVC525HD is at least worth a look as it will only cost you 9980 Yen (or $111).

It will record videos in AVI format at 720p and it boasts an internal 128MB of memory along with support for SDHC cards up to 16GB. Great price if you don’t need a lot of features.

It’s funny how companies can change. BenQ used to make cheap, but decent electronics. They still make the cheap stuff, but they offer some premium gear too. We’ve been impressed by some of their offerings lately.

The M2700HD is a 27-inch, 16×9 monitor with 1080P and a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1. You’ll also get two HDMI inputs and 10W virtual surround speakers. Not bad for this size that can work as a PC monitor or TV. We are interested to find out what this will be priced at given their history.
