AT&T offers half price Blackberrys and free Samsung Solstice for Christmas

att-logoThe holiday season is a good time to give someone in your family a new mobile phone. If they are still rocking that Razr from years ago, it’s time for an upgrade. Just be sure it is a family member you can trust to pay the bill and not run up the minutes.

AT&T has announced a new special deal for the holidays that offers a gob of Blackberry handsets at half off, and even the newer Blackberry devices are included. The sale covers the Bold 9700 and 9000 as well as the Curve 8900, 8520, 8320, and 8310 handsets.

The downside is those half price deals will be after mail-in rebates that you won’t see until February or later. If a Blackberry isn’t your thing, you can get a free Samsung solstice after a $50 mail-in rebate and the purchase of a data plan. I really hate mail-in rebates.

The purchase of a data package is not required to get this phone for free from AT&T. I just got one on Friday. AT&T does not consider this phone to be a smart phone or a PDA. Therefore, you are not required to purchase a data plan. If you choose to purchase a data plan anyway, the cost is $15/month or $10/month if you are on a family talk plan, for unlimited data usage.
