Posted in Storage by Shane McGlaun on November 9th, 2009

sabertoothssd-sbIf you purchased a netbook from Asus a while back that used an SSD, you may have the thing packed with files now and be out of storage space. If so you are in luck; a company called Active Media Products has unveiled a line of upgrade SSDs that offer more performance and more storage.

The new line of SSDs is called the SaberTooth S4 series and they are compatible with the Asus S101, 900, 900A, 901, and 1000 Eee netbooks. They will also work with other machines that use mini PCIe card storage with the SATA-II interface.

Nintendo denies Wii HD in 2010

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on November 9th, 2009

Wii HD with new controller in 2011?We had been hoping for a Wii HD in 2010 or 2011 and it looked like it was a possibility. But sadly Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime says that this is not the case. There will be no Wii HD with Blu-ray player and 1080p.

Wait. If they don’t want to compete, does this mean they are getting out of the gaming business? My Wii has been collecting dust for about a year. They need to do something with the 360′s Natal and the PS3′s motion-wand on the way very soon.

Art Lebedev’s 3D socket concept is five plugs in one

Art Lebedev's 3D socket concept is five plugs in oneOne day soon we might have wireless power, but until that day we will still have the necessary outlets all over our home. Art Lebedev’s Rozetkus 3D socket looks like a fairly normal socket, but when you push the button on top it pops out to provide five plugs.

This is definitely something we can all use with our many wired devices. There’s no info on possible release, but our guess is that we will see this one in homes soon.

SprayMore series Paintball Landmines

SprayMore series Paintball LandminesI’ve never engaged in any Paintball wars myself, so I thought it was all guns. Nope. Check out the Spraymore series from Paintball Landmines.

It’s a complete line of advanced and reusable Paintball Landmines that range from tripwire models to wirelessly detonated versions. Damn, these things are going to make one heck of a mess. Wirelessly detonated models can be triggered from up to 100 feet away.

Michael Jackson phoneEverybody wants to cash in on the King of Pop’s death, so we aren’t surprised to see this Michael Jackson phone appear in China. In a Gold color of course. We are talking the king of pop here.

Sure it looks kinda fugly, but if you’re a big MJ fan, you might want to buy this to go with your other memorabilia. The outside appears to be actually dressed like MJ. The phone comes with a Michael Jackson live-performance DVD which is probably a bootleg, and is decked out in plastic diamonds.

Verizon ads call the iPhone a “misfit toy”

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on November 8th, 2009

Verizon layed the smack down this weekend in its anti-AT&T campaign with three new ads. The first ad, “Misfit Toys,” attacks the iPhone’s attachment to AT&T and says it belongs on Rudolph’s Island of Misfit Toys for running on a network with low 3G coverage. The new commercials make a point to praise the phone, but attack the network, making it seem like Verizon is backing away from direct criticisms.

The “Blue Christmas” and “Elves,” ads are less direct but show iPhones with no logos ruining Christmas because they can’t get a good signal. You can see the other ads below.

FlashHarp: Harmonica meets USB flash driveThe Harmonica is a tough instrument to master. So it makes sense to combine it with instructions to learn how to play the harmonica right on the harmonica itself. That’s right, this harmonica is also a USB flash drive.

On the flash drive side there’s a 10 minute quicktime video that will teach you everything you need to know. It’s available in 2GB and 4GB varieties. You’ll be working that instrument like a pro in no time. Who’s buying one?

LED lamp powered by the telephone jackHere’s something you don’t see everyday. This eco-friendly LED lamp gets it’s power directly from the socket that usually connects to your land line phone. The lamp has 8 LEDs bright enough to serve your needs, whatever they may be.

The best part is that it won’t increase your electricity bill. Yes it looks like a piece of cheap plastic crap and it is, costing only $4.70, but hey it’s powered by your phone jack. That’s good enough for us.

SoundRacer makes your car sound like a supercarSo you drive around in an Gremlin, but what you really want is a Porsche or a Ferrari. Unfortunately you can’t afford one. Which is why you are in your little bucket of rust. Well, the Soundracer can help. It won’t convert your heap into a sportier car, but it will plug into your car’s cigarette lighter port, and use an FM transmitter to play real V8 or V10 engine sound effects to the stereo.

That way you can at least pretend you are driving in luxury. According to SoundRacer’s website, the sounds correspond to the RPMs of your car’s engine. Pretend is fun.

Seiko Clock and Takara have come up with a gadget that lets you have fish with zero maintenance. Sadly the animated fish look like they are being displayed on a Gameboy. This one resides in rumor territory for now, but word is that Apple is toying with the idea of releasing the device for $99 in an effort to combat Motorola’s DROID. A cheaper iPhone 3GS is always welcomed, even if it is just an 8GB version, at least it gives users another option.
