10 Key Calculator sports computer keysThe 10 key calculator doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s a calculator, but it has computer keys. When you put computer keys on a calculator, it gets bulky and the dork factor goes up dramatically.

If this is your kind of calulator, it’s also USB enabled so you can use it with a computer just like a standard numeric keypad….Which you probably already have. Unplug it from your PC and it’s a regular calculator again.

Boxee Box coming soon

Boxee Box coming soonBoxee is coming. And I don’t mean that kind from the original Battlestar Galactica. I mean the home theater PC software that makes watching streaming downloaded media on your TV easy. Mac Mini fans like it since it can be installed right on top of OS X. That’s because you need a computer in your living room to run it.

But it won’t be that way forever. Boxee just announced a deal with a hardware partner to release a Boxee Box for your living room sometime next year. So instead of buying a computer just for the Boxee, you’ll have a device designed specifically for your Boxee-related home theater use.

Xbox 360 console ban is foreverXbox 360 owners who have been banned from Microsoft’s Xbox Live service are out of luck. Completely out of luck. Those of you who have been banned will need to purchase a whole new console if you ever want to get back into the online action.

Microsoft says that banned machines will be permanently barred and “unable to connect to Xbox Live” as affected consoles do not have any recourse for terms of use violations. Like it or not, that’s the word. Those banned add up to about a million gamers missing from Xbox Live.

Rotating Outlet solves the International Outlet problemAs travelers know, different countries have different outlets. It can be a real pain and it can be costly too if you have to buy special adapters. These countries are not just going to come up with a standard anytime soon either. That’s why this spinning outlet is such a great solution to the problem.

The info is scant on this thing, but it looks like it offers several major plug types which are accessed by spinning the three segments around. Great for hotels, where travelers are always having problems because they can’t charge up their gadgets.

TVGuide.com unveils online DVR

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on November 12th, 2009

tvguidedvr-sbWhen you say DVR to me, I think of the hardware device that is in most living rooms around the country allowing us to record our favorite shows and skip commercials. TVGuide.com has long offered an online listings guide and it has now announced a new online DVR.

The DVR is apparently more like an online video aggregator that allows the user to select the shows they are interested in and watch them all from the TVGuide.com website. The DVR will send you messages when new episodes are posted of your favorite show.

iPod touch gets GPS navigation for first time

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on November 12th, 2009

gfiipodtouchOne of the big reasons many users of the first generation iPhone upgraded to the iPhone 3G and then the 3GS was to get GPS capability. The problem for those that use the first generation iPhone or the iPod touch is that the devices lack a GPS receiver.

A new software and hardware system has been unveiled called G-Fi with Navmii software that allows turn-by-turn navigation on the iPod touch and the original iPhone. The hardware portion is called the G-Fi and is a device that acts sort of like a router and can support up to 200 Apple devices in range.

PS3 update adding Facebook inbound

Posted in Sony by Shane McGlaun on November 12th, 2009

ps3facebook-sgSome screen shots of a new update for the PS3 that shows Facebook running on the console have tipped up in Europe. Facebook has been available on the Xbox 360 for a while but hasn’t been offered on other consoles.

I guess Sony is finally tired of Xbox offering things that the PS3 doesn’t. Now that the PS3 has Netflix and will be getting Facebook; the Xbox has two reasons less to buy it rather than the PS3. There is no word on when exactly the update will hit.

hp-logo-sbThe economy is bad and that might make you think that companies in markets like computers that are seeing some of the worst quarters ever would be saving money. Not HP, the world’s largest computer shipper is spending a huge amount of money to purchase 3Com.

HP has announced that its board of directors and the 3Com board of directors have both agreed to allow HP to buy 3Com at $7.90 per share for all outstanding shares of 3Com stock. That price totals $2.7 billion for the company.

Readius-like ereader launching in 2010We’ve been waiting for this one for awhile. Remember that bendable Readius ebook reader we showed you back in January of 2008 from Polymer Vision? Sadly for this bendy device it suffered delays which then turned into bankruptcy and dashed our hopes.

Now however it’s Wistron’s turn. According to Brian Chong, head of Wistron’s product planning, a similarly designed 5-to-6 inch device with a pull-out flexible e-paper display will launch in 2010. We can’t wait to see what the finished device includes.
