Sprint blocks 3G phone tethering on Everything Plan

Posted in Sprint by Shane McGlaun on October 30th, 2009

sprint-logo1One of the things that has many iPhone users angered is that while the iPhone has tethering capability, AT&T has blocked the feature. I can only imagine how angry the users would be if they had been able to tether the iPhone for years and the feature was cancelled without notice. Sprint has done just that for some of its customers.

A poster going by kevinapg has posted at the Sprint Blogs that the ability to tether his Blackberry handset has been blocked. The poster states that for years tethering has been supported through the Sprint Smartview software.

Without any notice, Sprint has stopped the ability to tether via Smartview on the Everything Plan. The person claims that Sprint reps told him that he could either downgrade to the 900 minute plan to get tethering back or buy a new broadband plan and modem. Sprint maintains that the feature was never supported and users doing this were getting something for free they were not entitled to.

I had the same problem on my blackberry, but it was because my Sprint connection software got upgraded. I just had to download the Blackberry connection software again from the download site, uninstall what I had and install what I downloaded and everything works fine.

How was it free, when you still paid for the data plan. Data is data, no matter what device you download it to, or through.

Windows mobile wifi router program WMWIFIROUTER can still tether and let you computer use the internet it cost $30 but work great.
