Livio unveils NPR Radio for internet radio fans

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on October 21st, 2009

livionprradio-sgI am not that big a fan of music. I have a really short attention span and music distracts me too much to listen while I work. If you are a music fan and the type that likes to listen at work where reception is sketchy the new NPR Radio by Livio can get you free tunes from the Internet.

The radio has access to over 800 NPR radio stations and is the first Internet radio to have a NPR specific station menu. The radio can also connect to more than 16,000 Internet radio stations. Listeners can also book mark their favorite stations with a favorites button.

Sanyo whips out 12,000 lumen pro PLC-XF1000 projector

Posted in Sanyo by Shane McGlaun on October 21st, 2009

sanyoplcxf1000The last projector I played with was one of those tiny pico projectors that was not bright enough to use in any room with ambient light. Sanyo has announced a new projector that promises the most brightness you can get in an 110V unit at 12,000 lumens.

The projector uses two lamps to get all those lumens and offers a 4000:1 contrast ratio. Sanyo builds in its active maintenance filter as well. The projector uses the Sanyo QuaDrive optical engine that adds a yellow light controller to the red, green, and blue chips of the 3LCD system.

Cooler Master unveils new universal notebook power adapters

Posted in Computer Components by Shane McGlaun on October 21st, 2009

cmnbpsuAt one point four different friends called me up all hoping that I had an extra power adapter for a notebook when theirs went out. It’s not all that uncommon a thing to happen it seems, despite the fact that it has never happened to me personally. If your notebook power adapter is on the fritz, Cooler Master has a pair of new adapters just for you.

Cooler Master may be better known for its line of computer cases, but these power supplies seem pretty cool. The devices are the NA 65 and NA 90 high-efficiency power adapters. They each come with nine different tips to allow them to work with most notebooks on the market.

A PS3 gets thrown into a Bravia TV

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on October 21st, 2009

The idea here is that if you buy a Bravia TV, they’ll throw a PS3 at it for you. Or something. Clever Australian marketing. Take one 46-inch Bravia TV KDL46X LCD and launch a PS3 Slim into it at 50 MPH. It’s sure to go viral. Or so they hope.

It’s a slow motion thing of beauty. Much more graceful than watching a Wiimote assault a TV. Very satisfying. So the moral of the story is to get yourself a PS3 along with that TV, because there are better ways to connect the two.

It’s a free online app that allows you to choose your page layouts and drag and drop your favorite Marvel heroes into each panel. Then you can add text, sound effects objects and other stuff for your 4-part series epic.

Google launching music service?

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on October 21st, 2009

Google launching music service?Word is that Google is planning to launch a music service and according to sources quoted by TechCrunch, the company is securing content from major labels right now. One source calls the service “Google Audio”.

It’s unclear if this music platform will be download-based like iTunes, or streaming-based like Pandora, but apparently it will be available to “at least” the US. Google already has a music service in China that lets users download tracks for free, and it has a music search engine that can be accessed by typing “music:” before your query in the search box. However when you access a song that way they aren’t available to listen to.

Alien Abduction Lamp releasedThis lamp has been a long time coming and we’ve been waiting patiently for our chance to see cows in mid-abduction. It has finally gone from prototype to reality. You gotta love the aliens peering out of the UFO windows.

This final version of the lamp features LEDs that light up the alien cockpit, and a steel retro spacecraft over an illuminated tractor beam. You can have the light always on or a pulse lighting effect behind the windows. When you turn the lights off, the aliens glow in the dark.

Microsoft Surface turned into D&D board

Surfacescapes Demo Walkthrough from Surfacescapes on Vimeo.
This is the best use for Microsoft’s Surface multitouch table we’ve seen yet. Recreating the Dungeons and Dragons experience on a tabletop. It’s a work in progress, but it’s pretty stunning. It was created by a team at Carnegie Mellon University. Players move real figurines over virtual battlefields, rolling virtual die to deal damage against the usual wolves and such.

So far they’ve got everything from modeled pieces, spell effects, and tons of nice touches to the terrain and ambient outdoor sound effects. It might remove some of the imagination from the game, but it makes many things easier.

Shake and Wake Alarm Clock

Shake and Wake Alarm ClockAlarm clocks are great for waking you up, but the problem is that they tend to wake your spouse up as well. That might not be a problem, but your spouse may have a different schedule. The Shake and Wake Alarm Clock is a good solution.

It wakes you up by vibrating. Just strap it on your wrist or put it under the pillow. Or uh, elsewhere for a great wake up. Your partner will never know and you will be awake and ready to start your day.

Dell SX2210T multitouch monitor

Posted in monitors by Conner Flynn on October 20th, 2009

Dell SX2210T multitouch monitorLately many all-in-ones have featured multitouch monitors. Well here’s a multitouch 21.5 inch monitor from Dell, the SX2210T, without the all-in-one PC included.

This monitor hasn’t yet been officially announced, but we can guess that it’s IR-based. Other than that, specs are what you would expect from your typical monitor, with 1920×1080 resolution, 1000:1 contrast and 2ms response time. You also get HDMI/DVI-in and a webcam/mic. We like. Nothing on pricing and no release date yet.

HiPhone F320 iPod Nano lookalike with rotary style dialHiPhone is at it again. This phone has a Nano flavor with a rotary type dial below. Sadly those number keys are push-button and so not all that rotary-like.

Some features include quadband GSM, 2.6-inch touchscreen, 1.3 MP camera (video recorder), MP4/ MP3 and Bluetooth, FM. There’s no mention of price, but you would have to buy them in bulk anyway and let’s face it, none of us wants this silly phone.
