The headset is called the SE115m+ and it combines a noise-reducing headset with a mic and remote control for music. On the right earpiece cable the mic and three button remote is found. The remote allows full control over all music player functions.

Android powers Raytheon battlefield network

android-robot-militaryWe have been fielding robots of all sorts on the battlefield for a while now, typically associated with finding and disposing of bombs and other explosive devices. I always thought when Android’s hit the battlefield they would be packing laser cannons and the visage of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Apparently, the first Android to hit the battlefield will be in the form of Google’s open source OS and cheap computer terminals.

Raytheon has announced its RATS battlefield networking system will be powered by Android. The system will allow troops in the field to coordinate with other combatants and gain access to other assets. Presumably, these other assets would include air strikes and drones.

Burger King Japan sells Windows 7 burgersMicrosoft is promoting Windows 7 in Japan with the help of Burger King, who is offering a Windows 7 Whopper. And they really mean Whopper this time as it has seven patties in an otherwise normal Whopper. It measures 5.1 inches tall and costs 777 yen ($8.53).

Microsoft has repeated the “seven” theme in multiple publicity events, but none so tasty as this one. I wonder how many of these Whoppers they will sell.

Fire Dragon USB game controllerAdd this one to the growing line of crappy novelty controllers. It’s a fire dragon for all of you D and D type dudes and dudettes who like to prance around in Elven armor and decorate your place with pewter trinkets.

It’s laid out like an XBox controller and you gotta love that “ergonomic design”. Apparently the tail is removable, so you can get all stabby with the guy playing next to you.

Philips DirectLife Activity monitor

Philips DirectLife Activity monitorPhilips DirectLife Activity monitor is exercising the geek way. As a geek, I don’t understand fancy concepts like calories or body mass index or push-ups. What I do understand is status bars. I know when something is fully loaded, half loaded or almost there. And that’s all I need.

I depend on status bars to tell me how close I am to a goal. Philips knows this. The Philips DirectLife Activity Monitor looks like a pedometer and has the status bar in green LEDs on the front. Using the software that comes with the device, you enter your fitness goals and then go about your day. Then just look at it to see how close you are.
