New Trek movie loaded on 4GB Star Trek Flash Drive

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2009

New Trek movie loaded on 4GB Star Trek Flash DriveStar Trek merchandising is only surpassed by Star Wars merchandising. Well, here’s the latest Merchandising Trek. The new film is being released on individually numbered 4GB Starfleet insignia USB drives. Yes, I too just heard ten million geeks sigh.

The drive is loaded with DRM, but you can run it on 5 registered devices and burn it to DVD, so that’s not too bad. It will cost you $29. Not sure what that amounts to in Starfleet credits, but it seems like an okay deal.

Exercise Bike for the Wii

Exercise Bike for the WiiYou own an exercise bike. You also own a Wii. Why not put them together and save some space in your home? Why not indeed. The Cyberbike is being developed by Bigben Interactive and comes bundled with some hippie game where you have to clean up the planet with your pedalling power.

It’s also compatible with Mario Kart, though I’m guessing you will have a hard time keeping up on that game. The bike is scheduled for a January release in Europe, but we don’t have any pricing details yet. Our guess is that it won’t cost much and will break down pretty quickly.

tomtomcarkitOne of the big improvements of the iPhone 3G and 3GS compared to the original iPhone was the inclusion of GPS allowing for navigation capabilities in the device. The problem is that the iPhone GPS receiver is prone to having issues at times if you are near large trees or tall buildings.

TomTom has announced that its Car Kit for iPhone is now available for users to purchase in Europe. The kit includes a secure mount dock that charges and holds the iPhone while it works as a PND. The dock allows the iPhone to be in portrait or landscape mode.

The netbook segment was the biggest growth category with an increase from last quarter of 37% and a year over year increase of 264%.

Hands On: Sansa Clip+

Posted in Review by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2009

SanDisk Sansa Clip+ MP3 playerSanDisk sent us a complimentary Sansa Clip+ to check out. After using it for several days, we’re ready to share our thoughts on the device. The original Sansa Clip has been a popular choice where cheap mp3 players are concerned and the Sansa Clip+ is even better.

The design beats the original, with a larger capacity and better features. The first thing that you notice is how durable this thing is. Despite it’s tiny size, it looks and feels tough. It’s definitely more durable than your average mp3 player. And it feels natural in your hand.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet pulled by Amazon for problemsThe Archos 5 Internet Tablet has been available for just a couple of days, but now Amazon has stopped all orders for the 160GB hard drive-based Archos 5 device, placing the item “under review.”

Amazon says that “customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item”. This is not good news for Archos. However, the 32GB flash-based version is still available for pre-order. Hopefully the issues, whatever they are, can be fixed quickly.

Solar Cell e-Book from LG

Solar Cell e-Book from LGYour choice of e-reader devices continues to grow rapidly. And now LG is showing off its Solar Cell e-Book reader. The prototype has an energy conversion efficiency of about 9.6 percent. That means that it gives you an extra day’s worth of power to continue reading on that 6-inch TFT-LCD after four to five hours in the sun.

LG is working on getting that solar cell energy conversion efficiency rate to 12% by 2010 or up to 14% by 2012. Great news for bookworms, not so great if you have to read for your homework.

Red Light Camera Detector could save you from tickets

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on October 11th, 2009

Red Light Camera Detector could save you from ticketsThis device may have the look of a child’s toy, but it can come in very handy. At any given intersection it will let you know if its being monitored by a red light camera or a speed trap. Like I said, very handy. The 1.6″ OLED display shows your car’s current location and alerts you to presence of a red light camera based upon an internal database of 6,000 red light and speed camera locations.

It will notify you using either audio or visual alerts. The database can even be updated by connecting it to your computer and downloading them for free for a year. After that it’s $19.95 per month.

Warrior USB JoypadYour current game controller is probably a little boring. Why not spice things up with this Warrior USB Joypad? Channel your inner warrior and use his power to conquer your foes, while trying to forget how uncomfortable this thing is.

The warriors eyes light up and it will vibrate with compatible games. It’s compatible with USB, PlayStation PS3 and PS2. To me, this thing looks like a bat with a Samurai head. I think they may have created a new superhero.
