Apple not happy with new Woolworths logo

Apple not happy with new Woolworths logoAttorneys for Apple have initiated a legal response against the largest supermarket chain in Australia. At issue is a logo that Apple says is too similar to its own trademark. You can judge for yourself, but I think Apple is way out of line on this one.

It all began when Woolworth’s Supermarkets announced in August 2008 that it would refresh its corporate branding strategy with a new logo. The Australian company hasn’t mentioned apples at all in relation to the new logo. They claim that the stylized ‘W’ has been paired with “an abstract leaf symbol” to represent fresh food. But it didn’t take long for others to note its similarity to an actual apple.

Apple has decided that the similarities are a little too close for their liking. Even though confusion between a computer company and a food seller seems unlikely, Woolworths’ application asked for a blanket trademark extending even to electrical goods and technology.

Look, whether it’s a stylized and sliced apple or not, Apple does not own all things “apple”. I ate an apple today and didn’t pay Johnny Appleseed Jobs a damn dime. Hell, if Jobs had been Adam in the garden of Eden, Eve would have shown him that apple with a bite taken out of it and Jobs would have immediately enlisted the snake as his legal team, instead of having some sweet sex and kicking off the human race.

ROFL, I love that!!!!!!! Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Jobs? Does he own a copyright on ANYTHING involving apples? I guess he should sue The Beatles’ record company Apple Corp then. Or sue Gwyneth Paltrow for naming her daughter Apple. Or hell, sue anyone with chubby cheeks who goes by the nickname of “Apple Cheeks”. This is beyond ridiculous. I wanna see Apple Fanboys defend this.

Looks more like a green capsicum to me.

  4. Tim Says:

Anyone versed in trademark laws would know that in order to protect your trademark, you have to defend it. That means objecting to any new applications that may be considered similar or mistaken for it. It’s better for Apple to object and have their objection denied than to do nothing at all.

Thank got “Apple” has never been to Europe ;)
