Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on September 1st, 2009

Between Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it’s amazing you have any room left in your house that isn’t occupied by plastic instruments. Do you even have room for DJ Hero? Probably not. But here’s a clever solution.

This retractable Rock Band/Guitar Hero controller from NEXiLUX can fold down to a tiny size for easy storage. And it still has all the buttons you need to rock out. It’s compatible with the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Sadly there’s nothing on a price or release date just yet.

Wal-Mart DVD players may burst into flamesSometimes it just doesn’t pay to buy cheap electronics at Wal-Mart. The items in question are the $18 – $29 Durabrand DVD players sold in the US and the UK, which were recently recalled. 1.5 million of the units recalled to be exact, due to 12 reported cases of overheating.

The original recall was only for the silver units sold, but now it also covers the pink and purple DVD players sold between January 2006 and July 2009.

The motion detecting telephone can detect anyone walking in the room and can be set to dial a pre-set number when motion is detected. It also has a built in microphone that records sound in the room and sends it to your mobile phone.

It connects to the telephone wall port just like any other phone and will cost you $59.95. It’s useless to those with animals though as their movement will just have them calling you at all hours while you are away.

keyscraperkb-sbWhen it comes to keyboards there are not that many color options. You can get black, gray, or that lovely beige color. All of them are rather plain and don’t let users express themselves much. A new line of keyboards from Keyscaper will change that.

The keyboards are custom printed with stock photography, Pac-10 college football mascots, and colors, or with Garfield. The technology used to print the keyboards doesn’t involve wraps or stickers.

rockbandbarnights-sbIn my town karaoke is a stable at bars and just about every one of the 600 Mexican restaurants we have. Anytime I have been in and someone was singing, I wished for a mute button. It seems like no one who can sing ever tries karaoke.

I would never sing karaoke myself, but Rock Band Bar nights might be fun. I like to play Rock Band and as long as I could be on an instrument and not sing, I would be good. Harmonix is signing bars up to be official Rock Band spots and offering materials to help get people into the location.
