It looks like Jobs and Apple have saved the best for last today as usual with the announcement of the new, updated 5th generation iPod nano. The new and improved nano has a host of new features including a not just a camera but a video camera, Genius mixes, FM radio with Live Pause, Voice Over and a Fitness pedometer that works with Nike.

Even with the tight-lipped Apple team we had heard the rumors that a camera was coming to the iPod and today it is finally here. Apple has implanted a video camera into the iPod nano that can record in either landscape or potrait and can record audio along with it so we’re not making silent movies here. You can then play back the video instantly and hear the audio through a built in speaker! It even comes with 15 cool-looking special effects that can be applied to the video such as Thermal, Mirror, X Ray and more.

EA Sports hits Apple’s App Store with a new game that takes full advantage of the iPhone and iPod’s touch screen. This version of Madden 10 should make it easier for the casual player to enjoy Madden. Beginners won’t even need the playbook, because the game automatically recommends the appropriate plays and the control stick is right on the touchscreen making it easy for those used to playing it on the console.

It looks like PS1 graphics, but if you must have Madden on your phone, it will be available for $9.99 in the App Store. If you get it today, it’s a discounted $7.99.

According to Apple, the rumors of the iPod Classic’s death have been greatly exaggerated. They proved it by announcing that they will keep the iPod Classic alive, but give it a nice capacity bump.

Up until now the largest size iPod classic held 120GB, but now it will hold 160GB of music. That’s like 40,000 songs or 2 Pink Floyd albums. The rest of the good news is that Apple decided to sell it for the same price of $249. So now the classic can rest in storage, not in peace. Put the eulogies down and dry your eyes kids. Uncle Steve loves ya.

The folks at Apple are making a number of announcements today and they keep getting better as we go. One of the latest is a drop in price for the iPod touch. The 8GB model, previously at $249, has been dropped to what Apple is calling a “magic” price point at $199.

They are offering the 32GB iPod touch for $299 doubling the storage, and they’ve added a 64GB capacity touch for $399. Nothing else has really changed with this device (no camera), but it will be able to run OpenGL 2.0, housing the same CPU as the iPhone 3GS.

Apple announced a new packaging concept called iTunes LP. Basically you can buy an entire album including things like liner notes artwork and other extras, making the package similar to old vinyl albums.

Too many of you aren’t old enough to remember albums, but when you bought the entire album you got a bunch of bonus material as an incentive to buy it. And iTunes LP is the digital version. The album covers are cool, plus pages for songs that feature lyrics, all that stuff. Even liner notes. We aren’t sure if it will mean more sales, but it’s cool.

In part of today’s announcements from Steve Jobs and Apple at the “It’s Only Rock and Roll” event, they’ve announced the latest version of iTunes – iTunes 9.

This new version (at first glance) most notably has a a new look to it, making navigation a little easier and get around (provided you aren’t too used to the old version). They’ve also added a way to preview from anywhere in the store instead of having to find the right place.

iTunes LP is something something new with iTunes version 9, bringing back some of the features we used to enjoy with LP’s that have been lost with online music, such as lyrics, notes, video, photos and apperently some other things that were not mentioned up front. Apple’s Rock and Roll event is live and Steve Jobs is back on stage for the event. In fact Jobs just announced iPhone OS 3.1 for the iPhone and iPod touch. Here are the highlights. It’s not just bug fixes, it will also feature a bunch of new and improved features.

Features like Bluetooth voice control, remote passcode lock, improved syncing, enhanced iTunes support, direct copy of contact info, new camera APIs, sponsored links and maps, and even improved exchange calendar syncing. Probably the best part of this news is that it will be free, and it’s available as of today.

Today is Apple’s big event and in conjunction with said event, we are now seeing price drops on every iPod touch in Apple’s on-line store. The 8GB model is now listed at $189 (from $229), the 16GB model is $249 (from $299), and the 32GB model is just $279 (from $399). Obviously they are making room for the new toys.

The nano and classic have gotten the price cut treatment as well, with the classic cut to $229 (from $249) while the nano starts at $129 (from $149) for the 8GB version or $149 (was $199) for a 16GB nano.

Philips’ GoGear Muse sports a typical glossy body, 16GB of internal storage and a 3-inch display. This one takes the Opus’ place as the company’s top-of-the-line player. It also features support for BMP, GIF, PNG, OGG, APE, Real Video and Real Audio formats, and of course MP3.

According to Philips users can expect up to 25 hours of audio playback on a single charge, while watching video will give you just 5 hours. The device will hit Singapore first for S$349 (or $244). It may or may not show up in North America later.

Look, a new ipod/iPhone dock in honor of Apple’s big event today. Altec Lansing has updated its InMotion line of iPod / iPhone docks with the Classic. It ups the sexy with sleeker lines and adds a handle, while going for the same $149.

It also features an auxiliary input, FM tuner and rechargeable battery, along with a remote and a “cubby hole” for storage. The price is a tad steep, but maybe the sound will make up for it.

I like home theater systems, but I am not a fan of all the wires that go along with them. Wireless systems are available, but the speakers still typically need to be plugged into an AC outlet creating issues of their own.

Zvox has announced a new IncrediBase cabinet that offers a simulated surround sound experience with all the speakers needed for the system crammed into one cabinet that sits under your TV. The IncrediBase 575 has a 133-watt amp, dual 6.5-inch long-extrusion subs, and five full range speakers in one cabinet.

The first Palm device to hit the market running the firms new webOS was the Pre that is still a Sprint exclusive handset. Palm has today announced its second webOS device called the Palm Pixi.

The Pixi is a thin phone with a full QWERTY keyboard on the front of the device in Blackberry fashion. Palm is mum on the exact launch date but says that the Pixi will hit Sprint (sigh) in time for the holidays. The handset will operate on dual-band CDMA2000 networks and supports 3G EVDO Rev A.

This has been a week packed full of new projectors. The good news is that many of the new projectors announced this week are lower priced making them affordable replacements for HDTVs in the living room. I think most guys would want the largest image they can get, and a projector delivers that.

NEC has unveiled a pair of new projectors called the NP110 and the NP215. These projectors have up to 2500 lumens of brightness and integrated speakers. The native resolution for the NP110 is 800 x 600 while the native resolution for the NP215 is 1024 x 768. The contrast ratio is 2000:1 and the lamps promise up to 5000 hours of life.

I really want to replace the TV in my living room with a projector so I can get a huge 300-inch image at a price that is affordable. My 50-inch plasma looks good, but when I watch Pinks All Out, I want the cars to be life size.

InFocus has announced a new projector that can throw an image 300-inches onto a wall or screen. The Projector is the SP8602 and it offers 1080p native resolution and a 30,000:1 contrast ratio. Brightness for the projector is 1300 lumens.

For those of you who have been patiently waiting, Android has finally joined the ranks of handsets with a mobile version of Facebook available. Through some recently released information on Facebook’s “Facebook for Android” page, the app appears to have a fairly comprehensive set of features.

Android users can post status updates, view news feeds, friends’ walls and user info. Facebook for Android can also share photos from the phone and also can look up 125 friends’ phone numbers from the home screen, all from the home screen.
