Alltel and Samsung unveil the Freeform

samsungfreeformThere have been lots of new mobile phones being announced over the last few weeks in the ramp up to the holiday shopping season. Samsung and Alltel have announced a new device that will be an Alltel exclusive called the Freeform.

The Freeform is a bar style phone with a four row QWERTY keyboard. The device will come in teal or burgundy colors and features a music player, stereo Bluetooth and multiple messaging features. The handset is GPS-enabled and can have up to 16GB of memory.

LG unveils two wireless HDTVs

lgwirelsshdtvThe worst thing about home theater gear and HDTVs is that there are lots of wires. Wires don’t look good and if your wife is a wire hater like mine, you end up catching lots of grief. LG has announced a couple new HDTVs that are wireless.

The two new sets include the LG 55LHX and the LH85. The TVs use a media box to transmit uncompressed full 1080p signals with “virtually” no interference directly to the TV. The TV can pick up the wireless signals from up to 30 feet away.

T-Mobile gets Motorola Cliq with Motoblur and Android

There has been all sorts of anticipation built up around the Motorola event held on the 10th where the company debuted its new Android smartphones. Among the new phones was the Motorola Cliq with Motoblur.

The handset is powered by Android and will be a T-Mobile exclusive when it hits the U.S. this fall. The handset has a QWERTY keyboard that slides out and a full touch screen display as well. Motorola designed the phone for tight integration with Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail, and other email sources. Motoblur provides access to these features without needing to open or close any applications.

Harman Kardon unveils AVR 7550HD receiver

hkavr7550f-sbIf you have been shopping for some new gear for your home theater this is the week to be in the market. The CEDIA Expo is going on this week which means just about everyone capable of making home theater gear is pulling out their new wares.

Harmon Kardon has announced a new AV receiver that uses the latest components for good sound. The device is called the AVR 7550HD and features a TI Aureus DA710 audio digital-signal processor. The receiver has HDMI 1.3a with deep color capability and support pass through of 1080p signals.

APSI 100 GPS with removable PMPThe most interesting aspect of the APSI C100 is that it features a large touchscreen display that can be removed from the dock and used as a portable media player. This gives you two gadgets in one and some bragging rights when your buddies are in the car.

The device can also be used as a remote to control your media system when connected to the dock in your car. Gini 3D software features all South Korea maps including accurate 3D renders of buildings and other structures. No info on pricing or if it will ever show up in this part of the world.

Microsoft’s new keyboard is thin, sexyIt’s hard to make a keyboard sexy. I mean, it is what it is, and it has to be comfortable and not injure you terribly bad, while maintaining a size that’s also comfortable. So, we really have to give props to Microsoft on this one.

The new Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard is sexy, curvy and just plain looks pleasant. It even has a sexy little numpad that’s like a sidecar. The keyboard is thin enough to slip into a manila envelope. It’s as thick as a AAA battery at the back, thinner than that in front.

They are wireless and of course detailed with Ferrari stylings. The wireless versions are the Ferrari Wireless Gamepad 430 Scuderia and the F1 Wireless Gamepad Ferrari F60.

You won’t pick up any hot babes with these in your hands, but they do look pretty cool and they ship this October for $49.99 each, unless you want a wired version for $10 less.

Sharp announces two new portable iPod speakersSharp just announced the DK-AP8P and the DK-AP7P, two portable iPod speakers. The DK-AP8P is the more powerful of the two, with a special front face plate that acts as a control panel. The magnetic cover can also be removed from the main system and used as a remote control.

The shared features of this pair include 2.1 sound with built-in subwoofers, compatibility with a wide range of iPods and iPhones, and they also act as a charger when your device is docked. Expect a battery life of about six hours, and if you want some private time, you can plug in your headphones.

Mad Catz's Modern Warfare 2 controllersModern Warfare 2 players are going to love this badass third-party controller. It looks awesome and even has extra buttons on the back so you don’t have to take your thumb off the sticks. Moving your thumb to reload or jump can be dangerous.

This baby also sports rubber grips and a “soft-touch finish for extended gaming sessions”, so I guess your hand won’t cramp up. Sadly it’s not wireless, but Mad Catz pledges to provide a “robust and latency free connection with the console.”

It makes an artistic statement that says that we are all ghosts when lounging in Pac-Man’s mouth. Or perhaps some of us are ghosts and others power-pellets. Now, if only it could gobble up certain guests on command…

The new My Book Essential comes in 1TB for $149, 2TB for $229.99 and 500GB capacities for $99.99. The My Book for Mac is available with 1TB for $149.99.

While the My Passport Essential comes in capacities of 500GB for $139 or 320GB for $99.99. My Passport for Mac is available in 500GB for $149.99 and 320GB for $119.99.

Samsung Star Think Pink Edition helps fight breast cancerThose living in Belgium will be able to pick up a limited edition of the Samsung Star S5230 soon, aka the Samsung Star Think Pink. Obviously it comes in pink and €10 will be donated to Think Pink Belgium with each purchase starting October 1 and after.

Aside from cosmetic changes, all of the other stuff is the same: a 3″ touchscreen, built-in accelerometer, TouchWiz user interface, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP connectivity, integrated stereo FM radio, 3.2-megapixel camera and a microSD memory card slot.

LG N2R1 Wi-Fi NAS

LG N2R1 Wi-Fi NASLG’s latest N2R1 NAS device is set to arrive this fall in 1TB and 2TB capacities and should prove to be a good alternative to the Time Capsule from Apple since they occupy the same price points as Apple with the same amount of storage.

The difference is that LG’s version is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac, which makes drive swapping easy. It should be DLNA-compliant, with a network-sharable DVD player/RW. It uses 802.11g instead of 802.11n. They will cost you $299 and $399 respectively.
