Super Talent unveils RAIDDrive SSD with 2TB capacity

Posted in Storage by Shane McGlaun on September 17th, 2009

supertalentraiddrive-sgSuper Talent announced a crazy fast SSD that doesn’t use the SATA interface that most SSDs use. That old and tired SATA interface is just too slow for Super Talent’s needs, the RAIDDrive slips into a vacant PCIe slot on the mainboard.

The PCIe slot allows the RAIDDrive to support sequential read speeds of up to 1.4GB/sec and sequential write speeds of up to 1.2GB/sec. Inside the RAIDDRive are four separate SSDs that use the SATA interface and higher capacity RAIDDrives cram eight SSDs into the RAIDDrive SSD.

Bowers & Wilkins announces Zeppelin Mini iPod dock

Posted in Bowers & Wilkins by Shane McGlaun on September 17th, 2009

bwzepplinminiOne of the better iPod docks that I have tested in recent years was the cool (and pointy) Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin. The only real downside to that thing was that it was very large for a speaker dock. I guess B&W felt the same way and the company has unveiled a new smaller Zeppelin Mini iPod dock.

Ironically, the only simularity between the original Zeppelin and the new Zeppelin Mini is the name. The Mini has a rotating docking arm that allows the iPod to be turned to landscape mode for viewing album art. The device also has a USB port to allow you to stream music from PMPs attached via USB as well as your Mac or PC.

Seagate unveils FreeAgent DockStar network adapterIt’s important to back-up your media to an external drive. If you suffer a crash, you’ll be glad that you did. But it isn’t always convenient to do so. The DockStar network adapter allows access to the data on the FreeAgent Go external hard drive from anywhere outside or inside the home. The user can choose which files are shared online. Making it even more convenient, Seagate also offers an iPhone app that allows access to the drive. Soap MouseWant to send someone a message about their personal hygiene? Why not gift them the Soap Mouse from Elecom. The company just launched this USB mouse that looks like… soap. Soap on a usb rope if you will.

The Elecom M-SP1UR/ M-SP2UR optical mouse features 800dpi resolution and weighs just 65-grams. It won’t clean anything and it just smells like plastic, but if you are a fan of soap, hey why not. It’s available in three colors and retails for 2000 Yen or about $21.

The most realistic Wall-E case mod

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on September 16th, 2009

The most realistic Wall-E case modWe’ve seen our share of Wall-E case mods, but this one is so detailed that it looks authentic. The attention to detail is the best that we’ve seen. If Wall-E really existed, this is what he would look like, with just the right amount of dirt and wear.

This one comes courtesy of César S..’s photostream on flickr. It looks as real as a computer generated Pixar robot can be. Awesome stuff. Now he just needs to make a few more characters and he can film his own movie.

A black walnut mission-style side table that doubles as a computer system.

It features a slide-in standard ATX mid tower case and decorative panels that are easily replaced and can be changed whenever you want something different. It also sports a bottom-to-top air cooling system with a large intake filter and dual stage temperature-controlled exhaust fans.

New iPod Touch really is 50% faster, almostAccording to Apple, the latest 32/64GB iPod touch is 50% faster than the old iPod touch. It’s an impressive claim. But is it accurate? Well, Macworld tested it out so you don’t have to worry about it. They found that the new touch comes close to that benchmark, even though it fell a tad short in some testing.

Booting: The old touch took 31 seconds. The new touch takes 19 seconds. Loading a web page went from 34 seconds to 15. And most games tested between loading 33% and 50% faster.

CTL unveils 2go Classmate PC E10 netbook for kids

Posted in Computers by Shane McGlaun on September 16th, 2009

classmate2go-sbI think that computers in schools are a great idea and every kid should have one. This would allow them to use computers instead of their books and perhaps lighten the 30-pound load it seems like they send home with my third grader. One of the most interesting netbooks specifically for school age kids is the CTL 2go Classmate PC E10 that debuted today.

The machine is a 10.1-inch laptop and it has an Intel Atom processor. The exterior of the machine is ruggedized to protect it from drops and water. Storage is to a 160GB HDD and the machine has 1GB of RAM inside.
