Mail E: Papercraft Wall-E checks your emailWe don’t know why this guy needs a papercraft Wall E on his desk to let him know when he gets an email, but we approve wholeheartedly. This papercrafted “Mail E” is actuated by three 9g mini-servos and controlled by a SD21 servo driver and a picaxe 18x.

The head and hand move to alert you and if he can add wireless connectivity, he’ll let it move of the desk and have Wall E make certain gestures to mimic the kind of email that he has received. Pretty cool. Check out a video below.

Kunai USB flash driveA Kunai is an ancient weapon used by ninjas, so modern Ninjas will surely want their USB flash drive in the form of a Kunai. But times have changed. This version won’t kill, it just holds your precious Ninja data and ancient secrets.

The drive comes with 2GB of storage space and will cost you about $125, which seems just a bit excessive considering the capacity. Maybe Ninjas get a special discount, but I doubt it.

Lego Baseplate Shirt may be the nerdiest shirt everThis shirt is an awesome idea, but it might be a little too much. I mean, Legos are great and wearing a Lego construction on your chest sounds neat in theory. But in practice I imagine it might not be so cool.

The Brick Construction Shirt features a Lego baseplate on the chest so that you can build whatever you want in bricks and display it. You know, like a TIE Fighter, a message, whatever. Sounds pretty uncomfortable and I’m sure your creations will spend most of their time falling off.

Chocolate Cigarette Case combines a sweet tooth with black lungLately we’ve been seeing all kind of gadget cases in chocolate form. And to top them all, here’s a Chocolate cigarette case. It combines two bad habits in one. When you have a craving for some chocolate, just have a smoke and when you need a smoke just focus on the chocolate.

This novelty silicone chocolate bar case will hold a standard sized 20-cigarette pack. The sweet tobacco will melt in your mouth and stick to your lungs, while the chocolate won’t melt in your hands. It retails for £7.99, but it’s such a crazy combo I can’t see them selling many.

Google announces reCAPTCHA Acquisition

Posted in News by Darrin Olson on September 17th, 2009

Google Acquires RecaptchaGoogle announced on Wednesday that the company has acquired reCAPTCHA, a company with an online product used for providing a test that humans can pass and computers generally cannot. A CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Turing Test To Tell Computers and Humans Apart) tool is used in many places on the internet and often when submitting information to ensure that it is a human submitting the information and not some bot software filling out forms automatically on the internet.

A CAPTCHA program would provide text that is not easily and usually impossible for a automated character recognition program to decipher, but easy enough that a human could identify the letters in the text. The person submitting the information would then enter the text they see to “prove” that they are human and not a machine.

Avaak has announced that the Vue Personal Video network is now shipping. The system is a kit that ships with a wireless video portal device and two battery-powered wireless cameras. The cameras have cool and easy mounts that are self adhesive and magnetic.
