The economy is bad: So recycle your candles

The economy is bad: So recycle your candlesYou know things are bad when gadgets encourage you to recycle candles. Screw electricity. That costs money. Time to go back to candles. Candles will never send you a bill, and candles can not be shut off by the electric company. Plus they can be recycled. Take that electric company.

After you’ve used up your old candles, just pop them into the Candle Quick, let it melt the wax down and then form a brand new candle. The Candle Quick will cost you $25, but if you buy lots of candles, maybe it will pay for itself while you stiff the electric company and put out fires.

Posted in Philips by Conner Flynn on August 3rd, 2009

Philips K700 and X501 coming soonPhilips has two new phones coming soon. The K700(pictured) and the X501. The K700 sports a full touchscreen display and is part of the Xenium family. It also features a 3.2-megapixel camera. Our guess is that you can expect good battery like with other Xenium handsets.

The X501 is more of a mystery. We do know that it sports a 2-megapixel camera. No word on pricing or availability yet on either of these up and comers.

RC Feed Boat

RC Feed BoatFishing can be fun, but really boring if they aren’t biting. This remote controlled Feed Boat can give you an edge against your gilled adversaries. The device comes with a built-in sonar sensor so it functions as a fish finder.

The remote control features an LED display that will always show you just where the best spot to fish is. It will also show you the current water temperature. It has a range of 948 feet and a tipper for 4.4lbs of bait as well as an underwater LED light. How does a pair of jet motors sound? That ought to help you get through overgrown waters.

Touch and feel navigation

Touch and feel navigationHere’s a concept that would really help the visually impaired and blind. The Touch & Go navigation system is a combination of a hand gadget and an earpiece that will give you directions as a relief map on its wearable navigator with tactile display.

The scale is 1:1,000 and the center of the display is where the user is currently. An arrow points toward where you should go, while audio through the earphones will speak any other details needed. Pretty interesting take on navigation for the blind.

Netflix instant watch on iPhone?

Posted in Netflix by Conner Flynn on August 3rd, 2009

Netflix instant watch on iPhone?Rumor is that Netflix is going to let iPhone users get in on the fun of streaming movies via WIFI. Users would love it of course, but how would they do it? The iPhone doesn’t support Flash, so it’s probably not going to be a web portal.

Netflix could develop its own app and do it all itself we suppose. How do you think AT&T would feel about users watching video on its wireless network without paying though? We would be surprised if this one panned out anytime soon.

Play Basketball with your popcorn bowl

Play Basketball with your popcorn bowlLike popcorn? What about Basketball? At last you can combine both and play with your food. Your popcorn may not dribble down the court, make passes or block, but each kernel can get nothing but net as you launch it on it’s way.

It’s a six-quart bowl that features a kernel separator and holders for a remote control, beverages and napkins. Think you have what it takes to rule the popcorn court? I’m assuming you can remove the hoop and shoot it straight in your mouth.

Apple tried to silence owner of exploding iPod?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on August 3rd, 2009

Apple tried to silence owner of exploding iPodWe’ve heard our share of stories involving overheating iPod batteries. Well, there’s an article in today’s Times UK about 11-year-old Ellie Stanborough, whose iPod touch blew up last month. Her father contacted Apple for a refund, got a little bit of a runaround, which is not unusual, and was eventually sent a settlement agreement offering a full refund as long as the family agreed to keep the deal confidential.

That’s pretty standard practice in these situations, but the agreement had a lot of lawyer-speak with a bunch of stuff that could be interpreted as vaguely threatening language about how breaking confidentiality might result in Apple relentlessly going after you. So the media coverage gets all amped up.

Humanoid Jaemi HUBO robot hits the gym

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on August 3rd, 2009

In between planning our demise and testing cycles and such, robots like to hit the gym just like you. And while this guy may not be fast, he’s working on it. So very soon, running won’t help any of us.

The video shows the Jaemi HUBO robot walking on a treadmill with no problems at all. We aren’t sure if he can run right now or not, but god help us all, they are working out like Rocky. Probably watching a montage of human carnage in their heads.

It’s for when you may have accidentally deleted items on your SIM card and need to recover them. The $199.95 SIM Card Spy Elite is capable of extracting data from nearly any SIM and is compatible with Smart Cards, allowing you to review all data on your computer.

Stuff like deleted text messages, phonebook contacts and phone logs. This one is also good if you are just plain paranoid. CTL 2go all-in-one Atom PC unveiled

Posted in Computers by Shane McGlaun on August 3rd, 2009

allin4-sbIn theory, an all-in-one PC is a good way to save space and get a cleaner looking desktop. The reality is that for some users an all-in-one won’t do the job since most of the new ones being introduced are base don’t the Intel Atom. Gamers need not apply.

A company called CTL has announced an all-in-one PC that’s really more of a normal LCD with a holder on the back for an external Intel Atom-powered system. That means that you have a choice of monitor sizes from 17 to 23-inches and the machine can have an optional DVD drive.

Remote control mower makes me want to mow my yard, almost

Posted in R/C Toys by Shane McGlaun on August 3rd, 2009

rcmowerOne of the things that comes along with summer is lawn care. I hate mowing my yard, but I am too cheap to pay someone to do it for me. Mowing the yard is especially sucky here in Texas since it’s like 105 in the shade most days during the summer months. I am counting the days until my son is old enough to do it for me. That’s why I had kids after all.

I think I could probably get the neighborhood kids to mow my lawn for free if I had this sweet remote control mower. The thing looks like a cross between a tank and your average mower and can navigate slopes up to 70 degrees.

Mega Bloks Offers Limited Edition Halo Wars Figures

Posted in Mega Bloks by Shane McGlaun on August 3rd, 2009

megablokshaloI played with lots of Lego’s when I was a kid and my mom hated it. I always left the parts around where she would suck them up with the vacuum. I also got into more than one fight with my brother or friends over who got that last set of Lego wheels. You may have heard about the Lego alternative called Mega Bloks.

The company that makes Mega Bloks offers a line of Halo kits for fans of the games. The company is signing fans up to receive limited edition Halo Wars figures given away first come first serve. There will be 9,900 UNSC Steel Spartan figures given out.
