Posted in WildCharge by Shane McGlaun on August 6th, 2009

powerdisc-sbI have wanted the WildCharge system for my iPhone since I saw the product announcement. I hate having to plug my phone in and the only thing about the Pre that really makes me jealous is the Touchstone charger accessory.

WildCharge has lots of different charging systems for different brands of mobile phones. However, the company doesn’t offer charging systems for all devices. Today WildCharge announced the PowerDisc that is an odd combination of wired and wireless charging.

Mogo Mouse for Netbooks launches

Posted in Computer Components by Shane McGlaun on August 6th, 2009

mogo-x54_netbook-sbOne of the things I dislike most about notebooks and especially netbooks is the track pad. Most netbooks have the track pad so close to the keyboard that I end up hitting the track pad with the palm of my hand while typing.

That means I like to have a notebook mouse with me at all times. One of the coolest mice for notebooks is the Mogo Mouse that stores in the PC Card slot. The catch for netbooks is that the little machines lack a PC Card slot.

Nintendo sells 500K Sports Resort units

Posted in Nintendo by Shane McGlaun on August 6th, 2009

wiisportresortsale-sbTypically, the games that consoles come with aren’t things that most of us find interesting. When I bought my Wii, I didn’t think much about Wii Sports being a cool game. As it turns out, I spend more time playing Wii Sports with family and friends than I do with any other game I own for the Wii.

The follow-up to Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, is now shipping and Nintendo has announced that the game is selling very well indeed. Nintendo says that between July 26 and August 3 it sold 500,000 copies of Sports Resort in the U.S. alone.

hitachi2tb-sbNo matter what sort of crap you fill your hard drive with from porn, to digital photos, or music we always seem to need more space. At one point people thought they would never need more than a few megabytes of storage space. Today we know those people were loons.

Hitachi has announced the industry’s first 2TB hard drive that spins at 7200 rpm. The drive is the Deskstar 7K2000 and uses five platters to reach its capacity. Hitachi has platters that are 500GB each so why exactly it takes five is unknown.

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on August 5th, 2009

Zuvo Water PurifierMost of us take clean water for granted and will never know what it’s like to live in an undeveloped country, where access to clean drinking water is not possible. And even in developed countries, the cleanliness of the water may not be so good.

The Zuvo Water Purator can help no matter where you live. It uses not one, not two, but five cleansing technologies to deliver safe and clean drinking water. With each purchase you aren’t just helping yourself, you’re helping others as well. Because the company will donate 5% of its profits to water purification programs in the developing world.

LEDSAUR Dinosaur LED Desk Lamp

Posted in Lamps by Conner Flynn on August 5th, 2009

LEDSAUR Dinosaur LED Desk LampThese lamps don’t light the room so much as fright up the room. Dinosaurs are scary. They feature powerful, energy-saving LEDs, and the Deluxe version is even equipped with a spine made of variable LED colors that can be adjusted with the included remote control.

Have you ever seen a Jurassic light show before? Neither have I, but these lamps convince me that Dinosaur bones are meant for glowing. Imagine these babies full sized, glowing in a darkened museum. That would be somehow even scarier than the real bones.

Wiimote and iPhone get together via Bluetooth

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on August 5th, 2009

Here’s a great hack that will merge your iPhone and your Wiimote. This is an OpenGL ES demo showing a Wiimote paired with the iPhone, using Bluetooth. The iPhone can then track the Wiimote’s orientation in real time. Pretty sweet.

It will be interesting to see what evolves from this project. Maybe one day soon you will be playing a smaller version of Wii games on your iPhone. Maybe Nintendo and Apple can get together and make games that use both a Wiimote and your iPhone…Like that could happen.
