Xbox 360 the only console to stream Netflix

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on August 11th, 2009

Xbox 360 the only console to stream NetflixSorry PS3 and Wii, no Netflix streaming for you. Today we learn that Netflix streaming won’t land on Sony’s PlayStation 3 or Nintendo’s Wii (Not counting PlayOn). Ever. How do we know? Because at the bottom of Microsoft’s details on today’s Xbox LIVE update, it now states that Netflix Watch Instantly integration is now an “exclusive partnership,” with Microsoft.

It even says that the “Xbox 360 will be the only game console to offer this movie-watching experience, available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix unlimited plan subscribers.” Who knew that the Microsoft guys had the foresight to lock things down so quickly? Netflix could still find it’s way to other consoles in some form, but this sounds pretty definitive to us.

MIMOMonitors unveils new 710-S folding mini-monitor

Posted in Displays by Shane McGlaun on August 11th, 2009

mimiusbmonitor-sbEach time I use my netbook I think that it would be great if I had more screen space. The problem is that I am using my netbook for portability and a larger screen kills the portability. A second monitor to take with me when I am working from the netbook would be perfect.

The caveat again is that secondary screens are typically bulky and need a power outlet to work. MIMOMonitors has announced a new foldable mini-monitor for people who are on the go and need a lightweight and compact secondary screen.

Posted in Netgear by Shane McGlaun on August 11th, 2009

netgearhomeentrouter-sbI have wished on several occasions that I could get my DVR connected to the internet. The problem for me is that my house is larger and my router and modem are a long way from my living room and running new cable through the walls is not an option.

At CES Netgear was showing off its Home Theater Internet Connection Kit and the company has announced that the kit is finally shipping. The kit is nothing more than a powerline networking system that includes a switch for the entertainment center with four ports and the adapter that plugs into your internet router.

kingstonssdnowv-sbIt seems like each week we have new SSDs hitting the market. That is a good thing, the more options we have for SSDs on the market, the lower the price tends to be. SSDS are still considerably more expensive than comparable hard drives today though.

Kingston has announced its latest SSD called the SSDNow V+. The SSD is designed for high performance with higher input and output operations per second and faster read and write speeds. The drive is a 2.5-inch form factor.

Logitech unveils Harmony 900 universal remote

Posted in Logitech by Shane McGlaun on August 11th, 2009

harmony_900-sbI have shed all my remote controls for my various components inside my entertainment center and have been using the Logitech Harmony One since it debuted. I will never go back to using the five or six separate remotes that the One replace on my coffee table.

As cool as the One is, the one catch was that the device wasn’t really intended to work components in other rooms. This is a big deal if you like to hide your gear away inside a closet or behind closed doors. Logitech has announced a new universal remote today called the Harmony 900. The 900 looks just like the One with the same design and button layout.

Well, the little guy did it. He broke a world record by traveling for 23.726 km at Le Mans. Still, it must have been hard to watch such a little bot make 5.6 laps in 24h.

This is Evolta’s 2nd title in the Guinness Book of Records. We congratulate him and look forward to his next big win. The heart of a champion beats in his little blue chest and the eye of the tiger looks keenly toward his next challenge.

It will cost you $638 and for that price you can get a mini beer tap that’s all class in leather and wood. All you need to do is drink up. Even if you act like a total slob, this thing says that you simply like your beer in style. Who can argue with such elegance?

Stone Cold ice trayKeep your drinks cold the Easter Island way, with ice cubes shaped like the statues of Easter island. It will be as if your drink is the Pacific ocean and the statues have fallen in, keeping everything chill.

There are no better ice cubes for tropical drinks. And if any of you know Leonard Nimoy, I suggest you put these in his drink and pretend you are watching In Search Of… as he blathers on about how Bill Shatner is hard to work with and how he enjoys Earth’s various mysteries.
